John Henry Sells

Funeral Services For John H. Sells Are Held Saturday

John H. Sells, Carnegie, died Thursday night at the Carnegie hospital after suffering a stroke earlier in the week.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist church with Rev. James Weston, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Carnegie cemetery.

Sells farmed southeast of Carnegie on Simpson creek until 1935. He had moved here in 1927 from Alma, Ark. He and his family moved to the Hollis community where they lived eight years before moving here again three years ago.

He was born June 22, 1880, in Independence county, Arkansas. He was married to Sarah E. Foley on June 6, 1904. Eight children were born to them. Six children preceded him in death and his wife died September 4, 1963.

He is survived by one son, Rube Sells, Carnegie; one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Smith of Amarillo; 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services For Mrs. Sells Held Here Friday

Funeral services for Mrs. John H. Sells were held at 2:30 Friday at the local First Baptist church. Rev. James Weston, pastor, officiated. Burial was in the Carnegie cemetery with Pitcher Funeral Home in charge.

Mrs. Sells died Wednesday morning, September 4, at the Carnegie hospital. She had been in the hospital about three weeks then returned home for a week. She became worse and re-entered the hospital Tuesday before she died.

Sarah E. Foley was born in 1887 near Pineville, Ark. She was married to John H. Sells on June 6, 1904, and eight children were born to them, six preceding her in death.

Mr. and Mrs. Sells came to Oklahoma from Alma, Ark., in 1927 and settled near Carnegie. They moved to Hollis, where they lived for six or eight years and then two years ago moved back to Carnegie. She was a member of the Assembly of God church at Hollis.

She is survived by the husband of the home; one son, Rube Sells, Carnegie; one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Smith, Amarillo; one brother, Riley Foley, Alma, Ark.; five sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Hamilton, Alma; Nell Foley, Mrs. Carlie Hodge, Mrs. Effie Hickey, and Mrs. Opal Weese, all of Van Buren, Ark.; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Alice L. [Combest] Sells Skinner

Funeral services for Alice Sell Skinner, 92, of Carnegie were held Saturday, April 30, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Carnegie with Rev. Arthur Blount officiating.

Alice was the first born of 11 children born to Elmer and Lena [Crumpler] Combest on July 30, 1912 in Carnegie and died Wednesday, April 27, 2005 at the Carnegie Hospital after a brief illness.

Alice grew up in the Carnegie community and married Rube Sells on August 26, 1929 in Anadarko. He preceded her in death on November 11, 1970. They farmed south and northeast of Carnegie. She was a homemaker and mother. Alice also worked at several restaurants in Carnegie as well as the Senior Citizens Center, retiring from there in 1983.

In January 1975, she married Melvin Skinner who preceded her in death, May 1981.

Alice was saved in 1956 and joined the First Baptist Church of Carnegie. She was an active member of the Ruth Sunday School Class until her health began to fail. She was also a member of the Carnegie Quilting Club and former secretary of the Carnegie AARP.

She loved to garden and do all types of sewing, especially quilting. Alice was known for her cooking and gardening skills. She spent many hours preparing every year to enter all types of vegetables, sewing and cooking exhibits in the Carnegie Fair, where she won many ribbons. She loved to go places with her family and watch her grandchildren in all their activities. Alice overcame several health problems with a strong will to live.

She is survived by two sons and their wives, Kenneth and Nadine Sells of Carnegie and R.I. and Jan Sells of Skiatook; one daughter and her husband, Diann and Lynn Campbell of Carnegie; one daughter-in-law, Jean Sells of Carnegie; two stepsons, Dennis Skinner and wife, Sandy of Carnegie, Gaylon Skinner and wife, Karen of Colony; two step-daughters-in-law, Shirley Skinner and Jan Skinner, both of Carnegie; four sisters, Colleen Long of Temple, Betty Davis of Ft. Cobb and Norene Rowe of Allen; two brothers, Charlie Combest of Fort Cobb and Bob Combest of Sayre; 10 grandchildren: Johnny Sells, Mike Sells, Lena Bradley, Scotty Sells, Dr. Paul Sells, Janece Ohlman, Latish Aguiar, Carey deal, Lori Campbell and Taylor Campbell; 18 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Billy Sells; three brothers, Wyatt, Lloyd and Bill Combest; one sister, Viola Combest; two grandchildren, Monte Sells and Marina Sells; one great granddaughter, Krystal Sells and two stepsons, Arden and Jerry Skinner.

Burial was in the Carnegie Cemetery under the direction of the Ray hackney Funeral Home in Mountain View.

James Henry Sells

Military Rites Held in Carnegie For James Sells

Services were Monday in Mountain Park for James Henry Sells, 34, who was killed Sunday morning when a derrick on a water well fell on him.

Sells was buried with Military honors in Carnegie cemetery Monday afternoon. He was born in Jackson county, Arkansas, and came to Oklahoma in 1921.

During World War II, he served four years with the U.S. Army.

He is a former Carnegie resident.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; five children, Wreatha Ann; James jr., Elaine, Tommy, Patricia, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Sells, one brother, Rube L. Sells, Carnegie, and one sister, Mrs. Ruth Smith, Snyder.

Billy D. Sells

Graveside services for Billy D. Sells, 69, of Carnegie will be held Thursday, August 29, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at the Carnegie Cemetery with Rev. Bob Heddlesten officiating.

Billy was born August 13, 1933 in Carnegie to Rube and Alice [Combest] Sells and died Monday, August 26, 2002 after a sudden illness.

He married Sara Jean Cape on January 25, 1955 in Anadarko. He was a cowboy and lived in the Carnegie area all of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Jean, of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Lena and Harold Bradley of Carnegie; two sons and daughters-in-law, Scotty and Kristie Sells of Carnegie and Dr. Paul and Kristin Sells of Chandler; eight grandchildren, Jody and Shannon Turney of Mountain View, Mandy and Jim Sams of Cache, Joel and Erin McDonald of Weatherford, Jenifer Sells of Lawton, Bailee Sells of Carnegie, Tanner, Clayton, and Tristan Sells, all of Chandler; three great grandchildren, Taryn, Taylor and Kayla Sams; his mother, Alice Sells Skinner of Carnegie; two brothers, Kenneth Sells of Carnegie and r.L. Sells of Skiatook; and one sister, Diann Campbell of Elgin. He was preceded in death by his father; and infant son, Monty Lee Sells and an infant daughter, Marina Jean Sells.

Services are under the direction of the Pitcher-Hackney Funeral Home in Carnegie.

Monty Lee Sells

Funeral Services Held For Local Couple's Baby

Funeral services for Monte Lee Sells, 18-month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Sells, were held Tuesday, December 1, in the chapel of the Pitcher Funeral home with Rev. J.B. Shinn officiating. Burial was in the Carnegie cemetery.

The young son died Monday, November 30, at the home after being ill for sometime.

He is survived by his parents, a three-year-old sister, Lena Jo; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Rube Sells, Carnegie, and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Cope of Chickasha.

Graveside Service Held At Carnegie Cemetery

Graveside services were held Saturday afternoon in the Carnegie cemetery for Marlena Jean Sells who died at birth Saturday morning at the Hobart hospital. Services were conducted by Brother Thompson.

Merlena was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Sells. They have another daughter. Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Rube Sells, Carnegie, and the maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Cope, Chickasha
