© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma November 1, 1933 James Madison Sands Civil War Veteran Dies At Home Here J.M. Sands, pioneer resident of this community and civil war veteran, died at his home on West Main street late Friday afternoon. Funeral services were conducted at he First Christian church at 6:00 p.m. Saturday by Rev. Edwin L. Kirtley assisted by Rev. W.A.R. Lovell and Rev. Garland Howard. Interment was made in the Carnegie cemetery. James Madison Sands was born in Benton county, Mo. Nov. 14, 1845 and died at Carnegie October 27, 1933 aged 88 years, 11 months and 18 days. He was married to Elizabeth Jane Sands October 2, 1870 and to this union was born eight children, three of whom are living. Mrs. Sands died August 17, 1931. His sons are J.G. Sands of northwest of town, Ulysses Sands of this place and Edd Sands of Blair. He has been a member of the Christian church for many years, holding membership in the Carnegie church at the time of his death. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, June 4, 1941 Naomi Avious [Baird] Sands Mrs. Sands Is Heart Attack Victim 29th Funeral services were held at the First Christian church Saturday afternoon for Mrs. J.G. Sands, well known Caddo county woman, who died suddenly at her home north of Verden Thursday morning. It is believed she was the victim of a heart attack while at work at her home. Rev. T. T. Brown, pastor, conducted the funeral service. Naomi Baird was born at Mattney, N.C. May 21, 1883 and was 58 years and 8 days of age at the time of her death. At an early age she united with the Methodist church. Thirty-one years ago she united with the Christian church at Leedey. She was united in marriage with John G. Sands February 3, 1901 and to them ten children were born, five boys and five girls. Three daughters preceded their mother in death . Besides the husband, survivors include Mrs. A.J. McCray, Stillwater; Claude Sands, Verden; Clifford Sands, Carnegie; Mrs. J.W. Taylor, Lindsey; Clyde Sands, Sanger, Calif.; Clay Sands, Frederick, and Cleo Sands of the home address. All were present except Clyde. Burial was in the Carnegie cemetery. |
