© The Chickasha Express-Star Chickasha, Oklahoma February 1, 2005 April 26, 1913 ~ January 31, 2005 Leslie Pain passed away on Monday, January 31, 2005, at the age of 91 years. Funeral services will be at the First Baptist Church in Anadarko at 1:30 PM, Thursday, February 3, with burial in Carnegie Cemetery under the direction of Steverson Funeral Home. Born in Austin, Texas, on April 26, 1913, he moved with his parents to Oklahoma when he was one year old. He was raised in Carnegie and was valedictorian of his graduating class. Leslie's mother died when he was eight, and his father died when he was sixteen. Erma and Ernie, his younger sisters, were raised at the Masonic Home in Guthrie. He enrolled at the University of Oklahoma in 1929, the same year his father died, and worked to support himself there from 1929 to 1935. While at O.U. he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Eta Sigma, Phi Alpha Delta and Sigma Chi. A member of the Order of the Coif, he graduated number one in his law school class. Leslie married the former Roberta Wilmoth, 62 years ago on March 27, 1942, at the First Baptist Church in Chickasha. He is survived by his wife, Roberta, of the Anadarko home; three sons, Larry Pain, an attorney, and his wife Susan, of Houston, Bill Pain, an attorney, of Norman, and David Pain, a pharmacist and his wife Janet, of McAlester; grandchildren, Julie Woodbury, Emily Pain, Bryan Pain, Anna Pain and Mason Pain, and by great grandchildren, Raylee and Morgan Pain. Also by several nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many thoughtful neighbors and loving friends. Leslie began his professional career in the legal department of Southwestern Power and Light Company from 1935 to 1940. His military service began in 1940 as an Army artillery officer. Active duty military service lasted until 1945. He was assigned by the Army as liason officer on an Admiral's staff, where he assisted in planning the invasion of Japan. He retired from the Army Reserve as a full Colonel in 1969. After the war, he opened a law office in Chickasha. From 1951 til 1953 he served as Executive Secretary to Congressman Toby Morris. From 1953 til 1956 he practiced law with Mr. Morris in Lawton. Afterwards, he was a partner to the firms of Barney & Pain and Pain & Garland in Anadarko, Oklahoma until his death. He served as a member of the Board of Bar Examiners from 1970-1978, and as the Board's Chairman in 1976. Leslie also served the Boy Scouts of America as President of the Black Beaver Council, among other offices. He received the Silver Beaver Award for his service. A member of the Lions Club for more than 60 years, he was named a Melvin Jones Fellow. He served the Lions as International Councilor, now called District Governor. Leslie was a member of the First Baptist Church since his arrival in Anadarko in 1956. He served the church as a deacon and in many other capacities. He was first ordained as a deacon at the First Baptist Church in Chickasha, when he was 28 years old. He served as a member of the Advisory Board of the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas, as Trustt for the Oklahoma Baptist Foundation, and as Chairman of the fun raising committee for Oklahoma Baptist University. He was on the Board of Directors of the First State Bank of Anadarko from 1968 til the time of his death. Leslie Pain was a Christian, a gentleman, a scholar, and an example and inspiration to many. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Building Fund of the First Baptist Church in lieu of flowers. © Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, September 7, 1919 ~ October 4, 2017 Roberta Pain, teacher, artist and homemaker, passed away soon after her 98th birthday on Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at 6:46 p.m. in her home in Englewood, Colorado. Roberta is survived by her three sons, Larry of Houston, Texas, Bill of Breckenridge, Colorado and David of Pagosa Springs, Colorado as well as five grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Prior to moving to Colorado in 2006, Roberta and her beloved husband, Leslie, lived in Anadarko, Oklahoma from 1956 until Leslie’s passing in 2005. The couple met and married in Chickasha, Oklahoma on March 27, 1942. Individually and as a couple, they were dedicated leaders in First Baptist Church of Anadarko where they both sang in the church choir for more than 50 years. For more that half her life, Roberta was a P.E.O., a women’s philanthropic educational organization. She was also active in Anadarko Philomathic Club, an organization founded in 1889. In 1941, Roberta was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics from Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, Oklahoma. She later taught in both the Lawton Public School System and the Anadarko Public School System. Roberta will be missed by her sons and their wives as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Roberta shall never be forgotten by all who knew her and were touched by her commitment to Christ and her love of life.
