Rube Fanning Dies After Long Illness

A serious illness of almost a year's duration ended in mid-afternoon Thursday in the death of A.R. "Rube" Fanning at his home here. Stricken with a heart ailment, he had been confined to his chair day and night for the past eight months. A brick mason and carpenter, he had worked on many building in this community since coming here in 1907, his last job being the new Baptist church.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the First Baptist church by Rev. Garland Howard, pastor, and burial was made in the Carnegie cemetery under direction of the Pitcher Funeral Home.

Arthur Ruben Fanning was born at Richfield, Clay county, Mo., January 21, 1882 and died at Carnegie December 18, 1941 at the age of 59 years, 10 months and 27 days. Going with his parents to Texas as a small boy, he grew to young manhood in Fannin county. He was married to Miss Ethel Morrison in 1901 and to them one son was born. Mrs. Fanning died in 1919.

Mr. Fanning came to Oklahoma in 1901 and farmed three years in the southeastern part of the state. Coming to Carnegie 34 years ago, this place has since been home, altho his work often took him to other parts of the state. He was married to Mrs. Lola Jacks in February, 1921.

Survivors include his wife; his son, Elmer Fanning of Morro Bay, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Dora Taylor, New Hall, Calif.; three brothers, J.M. Fanning and C.A. Fanning, Morro Bay, and A.J. Fanning of Carnegie. He became a member of the local Baptist church in 1927.

Relatives from a distance who attended the services Sunday included Mrs. J.A. Best and Delton Dye, Claude, Texas; Raymond Best, Amarillo; Mrs. C.Y. Rhores and two daughters, Frederick; Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Buchanan, Caldwell, Kansas; Mrs. J.M. Hollenbeck, Wichita; Mr. and Mrs. J.M. McMillen and Mrs. Boyer Paup, Enid; Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Enbree, Lindsay; Mr. and Mrs. M.B. Fanning, Oklahoma City; Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Coleman, Anadarko; Mr. and Mrs. C.F. Steverson and Mrs. Amanda Anthony, Bethany; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Martin, Lawton; Rev. and Mrs. Edgar Jacks and family, Hominy; Mrs. G.S. Amis, Miss Betty and John Amis, Hobart, and Mr. and Mrs. Loy Wilson of Cement.

Carnegie Services For Mrs. Carter Are Held Monday

Funeral services for Mrs. J.T. Carter, Eakly, a former Carnegie resident, were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the local First Baptist church. rev. James Weston, pastor, officiated. Interment was in the Carnegie cemetery with Pitcher Funeral Home in charge.

Mrs. Carter died Saturday in the Hinton hospital after being ill about ten days. She had suffered a stroke earlier.

Lola C. Embry was born to Mr. and Mrs. Cole Embry July 9, 1888, in Fanning county, Texas. In about 1920 she and her son, Edgar Jacks moved to Carnegie. Later she was married to Rube Fanning here. He preceded her in death and several years ago she was married to Dr. J.T. Carter, veterinarian at Eakly.

She is survived by her son, Rev. E.R. Jacks of Hayward, Calif.; three sisters, one brother; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
