© Smith~Gallo Funeral Home Guthrie, Oklahoma April 1, 2014 George Edward Duke November 13, 1922 ~ April 1, 2014 George E. Duke, 91, passed away at home on April 1, 2014. He was born November 13,1922 to Joe and Olivia Duke. For much of his childhood, George grew up on or near the Duke ranch which was established during the mid 1800's by his great-grandfather in the Texas Panhandle area. He served in the United States Army in the European Theater and received five major battle stars during World War II including one for service at the Battle of The Bulge. He served in the Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe campaigns of the European Theater of Operations. After the war, he met and married his wife Margret Loretta Punneo. George is preceded in death by his wife Rita, his parents and his two brothers. He is survived by three sons, George, Greg, and Randy, nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. George expressed sincere generosity toward those he loved. He was known and loved by many and will be sincerely missed. |
© Smith~Gallo Funeral Home Guthrie, Oklahoma August 4, 2008 Margrett Loretta "Rita" [Punneo] Duke Margrett Loretta "Rita" Duke was born in Mountain View OK. She was the daughter of Ed and Lela Punneo. She lived in the Saddle Mountain area of the Mountain View community until she was married in 1949. Her marriage of 59 years to her husband George demonstrated how highly she valued commitment and family. Together they've been residents of Guthrie OK since 1978. In addition to being a homemaker she once served in the community as a nursing home activity director. She was a devoted wife, mother, and Christian and often offered great encouragement to others. She is survived by her husband George, Sr., of Guthrie, sister Christina Mann of Las Vegas NV, three sons, nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Interment will be at at Carnegie Cemetery, Carnegie OK. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie. |
