B.T. Burton Dies At Age of 79 Thursday

Services were held at 2:00 o'clock Friday afternoon for B.T. Burton, for many years a resident of the community south of town, who died at his home Thursday after a long illness. He was 70 years, 11 months and 4 days of age at the time of his death.

D.A. Graves, pastor of the Baptist church of Alfalfa, conducted the service at the Baptist church here and burial was made in the Carnegie cemetery under direction of the Pitcher Funeral Home.

Berry Thomas Burton was born at Magazine, Ark. March 7, 1857. He was married to Rose English and to this union were born seven children, two of whom died in infancy and one daughter and one son died later in life. Those surviving are Charlie Burton of Temple; Protus Burton and Cecil Burton of Olney, Texas. His wife died in 1894.

In June 1896 he was united in marriage to Sarah Bishop and to them eight children were born, all surviving. They are Alton Burton, Duncan; Mrs. Mae Clark, Ada; Mrs. Florence Truitt, Mrs. Dollie Swanda, Mrs. Nettie Erman, Mrs. Mary Lou Milligan, Joe B. Burton and Albert Burton, all of Carnegie. Also three step-sons, Ray Bishop, Newcastle, Texas; Elmer Bishop, Carnegie; and Willie Bishop, Bunger, Texas.

He also leaves 51 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. He was converted and joined the Baptist church in 1898.

Rites Are Held At Norman For Mrs. Burton

Funeral services for Mrs. Sallie Burton, 95, of Norman, mother of Mrs. Walter Erman and Mrs. Dudley Truitt of Carnegie, were held July 22 in the Alameda Baptist church, Norman. Burial was in the Carnegie cemetery.

Mrs. Burton was born March 22, 1874 in Murfreesboro, Tenn. and lived in Caddo county from 1924 to 1960 before moving to Norman.

She is survived by five sons, G.R. Bishop, Olney, Tex.; A.P. Bishop, Corona, Calif; W.C. Bishop, Loving, Tex.; Joe Burton Downey, Calif., an A.W. Burton of the home; a stepson, W.P. Burton, Olney, Tex.; and five daughters, Mrs. Verna Mae Clark, Ada; Mrs. Dollie Swanda, Apache; Mrs. Mary Lou Milligan, Norman; Mrs. Erman, and Mrs. Truitt, forty-five grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and a number of great-great-grandchildren.
