© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, April 15, 1936 Thomas James Alfred Bryan 1865 ~ 1936 Thomas James Alfred Bryan was born in Marshall county, Mississippi March 29, 1865, and died in Carnegie, Oklahoma March 31, 1936, aged 80 years and 3 days. Death came most unexpectedly. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Carnegie, conducted by Rev. M.M. Monk, the pastor. The Carnegie Master Masons were in charge later at the cemetery. He moved to Graham county, Texas in 1874. In 1876 he was married to Bellezora Goodwin, who died in 1889. To this union was born eight children, only two of whom are now living. They are W.P. Bryan of Walnut Springs, Texas, and Miss Dollie Bryan of Carnegie. For the next ten years he was a Texas cotton farmer. He moved to Glen Rose, Texas in 1886. Three years later he engaged in the grocery business, which with cotton buying he occupied his time for the next 22 years. Coming to Oklahoma in 1916 he farmed south of Carnegie for a while then again went into the cotton buying business. In 1920 he was married to Mrs. Maggie Harbord of Carnegie, who survives him. At the age of 30 years he was converted and joined the Methodist church and remained in that faith until death. At the age of 35 he was made a Mason at Glen Rose, Texas. The last few years of his life was spent partly in Oklahoma City, but mostly in Carnegie. And thus ended the long career of one of the teeming millions of earth. He never held high office, he never organized a new political party. His name, like that of other millions who have gone on before, and other millions who will follow on will never be found in the "Who's Who" column yet who can say of a certainty how high his name will appear at the top of the page of "The Lamb's Book of Life." Rest to his body and peace to his soul. T.J. Bryan and Mrs. Maggie Harbord married at Hobart Oct. 18, 1920. Thomas James Alfred Bryan March 29, 1865 ~ March 21, 1936 |
