© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, May 8, 1968 Walter Austin Brown 1892 ~ 1968 Funeral Services For Walter Brown Are Held Saturday Walter Brown, well-known custodian of the First Baptist Church, died unexpectedly early last Thursday morning, May 2, at the Carnegie hospital after entering Wednesday for a blood transfusion. Brown had been in ill health for some time. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist church with Rev. W.F. Crow, a former minister of the local church officiating. Rev. Bill Dickover, pastor, assisted. Burial was in the Carnegie cemetery with Pitcher Funeral Home in Charge. The Carnegie American Legion Post presented full military rites at the graveside. Walter Auston Brown was born December 24, 1892, in Lockesburg, Sevier County, Arkansas. He was married to Frankie Adline Janes on March 5, 1922, in Lockesburg. Three sons and one daughter were born to them. A veteran of World War I, Brown had the experience of being aboard ship, bound for overseas duty 12 days after he reported for service in June, 1918. He was a member of the American Legion and had been a member of the Carnegie First Baptist church the past 15 years. He is survived by the wife of the home at 115 South Delaware; three sons, Hubert of Elmira, N.Y., Roy of Little Rock, Ark., and Bill of Carnegie; one daughter, Mrs. Melba Leatherbury of Midwest City; 12 grandchildren, one brother, George Brown of Miami, Okla., and one sister, Cora Holeman of Lockesburg.
