© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, September 18, 1963 William H Brotherton 1878 ~ 1963 Funeral Services Held Tuesday For Former Resident Last rites for W.H. "Bill" Brotherton, Ponca City, a well-known former resident of the Carnegie area, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Carnegie cemetery with Rev. James Weston, local Baptist pastor, officiating. Trout Funeral Home, Ponca City, was in charge. Previous funeral services had been held at 9:30 Tuesday morning at Ponca City. Brotherton had been in ill health for several years. He fell July 16 and suffered a broken hip. He died Sunday afternoon in a Ponca City hospital. He was born May 17, 1878, at Hickman, Ky., and while still a boy lived at Eastland and Abilene, Texas. He was a railroad foreman until 1915. He was married to Timmie Taylor on February 28, 1915, at El Reno and moved to Carnegie the same year. He farmed here until retiring in 1940. He operated a service station and grocery store in Anadarko at one time. They had been residents of Ponca City since 1946. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Alzenia Mae in 1939. He was a member of the Baptist church. He is survived by his wife of the Ponca City home; one sister, Mrs. Adele Dabbs, Snyder, Texas; several nieces and nephews.
