© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, November 3, 1926 Charles Wallace Brewington 1864 ~ 1926 C. Brewington Dies Suddenly Lived in Alden Community For Past Twenty Years. C.W. Brewington, resident of the Alden community for more than twenty years, died suddenly at his home nine miles south of Carnegie late Monday evening of heart failure. He was at work gathering feed in the afternoon and when his team was seen running from the field unattended, a workman in a nearby field went to see about the runaway and later discovered Mr. Brewington's body. He evidently had dropped dead while at work. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church today at 2:30, by Rev. W.A.R. Lovell, minister of the Christian church and interment was made in the Carnegie cemetery under the direction of Pitcher & Pitcher. Charles Wallace Brewington was born at Colony, Mo. January 13, 1864 and died at his home near Alden Monday, November 1, 1926, aged 62 years, 9 months and 18 days. He came with his parents to Kansas in 1877 and was married to Katherine Gerdner September 19, 1894. To this union five children were born, one daughter dying in infancy. The children are: Mrs. Elmer Butler, Clara Mont.; Mrs. Roy Wells, Columbia Falls, Mont.; Mrs. Lester Early, San Benita, Texas; and Earl Brewington who lives at home with his mother. He is survived by four brothers, G.M. Brewington, Independence, Kans.; E.B. Brewington, Tonkawa; O.M. Brewington, Wichita, Kans., and M.R. Brewington of Alden. © Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, December 16, 1942 Kathryn [Gardner] Brewington 1874 ~ 1942 Funeral Saturday For Pioneer Woman Mrs. C.W. Brewington, a pioneer resident of Oklahoma and who moved to the community south of town in March, 1903, died Friday and funeral services were held at the Methodist church Saturday afternoon by Dr. W.G. Beasley, pastor. Burial was in the Carnegie cemetery with the Pitchers in charge of arrangements. Katheryn Gardner was born May 23, 1874 near Longton, Kansas. She united with the Methodist church at the age of 14 and remained a member until her death. She was married to Chas. W. Brewington at Howard, Kansas September 19, 1894. They moved to Tonkawa at the opening of the Cherokee strip and to this country after it opened for settlement. Mr. Brewington died November 1, 1926. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Blanche Butler, Graham, Texas; Mrs. Lucille Wells, Gallup, New Mexico; Mrs. Chrystal Early, San Benito, Texas and her son, Earl Brewington, Carnegie. One daughter, Edna, died in infancy. She also had 15 grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a brother, Leslie Gardner of California. Out of town relatives who attended the service were Mrs. Bess Cox, Watonga; Mrs. W.W. Hawkins, Geary; and Mrs. Frank Rising of Tulsa. Kathryn Gardner Brewington May 23, 1874 ~ December 11, 1942 |
