Belase Funeral Is Set Thursday

Funeral services for Tom Belase, prominent Carnegie farmer who died Tuesday night at the Carnegie hospital after a long illness, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the First Methodist church. Burial will be in the Carnegie cemetery.

Belase had been a resident of the Carnegie and Oney communities the past 36 years. He was born in 1880 in Bell county, Texas, and came to Caddo county in 1927.

He was a member of the Highland Methodist church.

Survivors include his wife, Lela, two sons, James H. Belase and T.L. Belase of Carnegie; two daughters, Mrs. Bill Burge, Carnegie, and Mrs. Clyde Mowdy of Caolgate; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Funeral services were directed by Rev. Bob Williams, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene, with Rev. A.F. Heusel, a Methodist minister, assisting.

Lela Sarah [Jones] Belase
1884 ~ 1968


Funeral services for Mrs. Tom Belase, mother of James H. and T.L. Belase, Carnegie, were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First Methodist church with Rev. Larry Becker, pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Carnegie cemetery with Pitcher Funeral Home in charge.

Mrs. Belase, a former resident of Carnegie, died Monday in a hospital at Coalgate, Okla. She had been making her home with a daughter at Coalgate for some time.

Lela Sarah Jones was born May 8, 1884, at Granberry, Texas. She was married on March 11, 1904, to Thomas Belase at Coalgate. Ten children were born to them. Four children preceded her in infancy and two others, Mrs. Madeline Potts and Dee Marshall Belase also preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Highland Methodist church northeast of Carnegie and had lived in that community for about 40 years. She had made her home in Coalgate the past three years. Mr. Belase died on August 18, 1964.

She is survived by the two sons of Carnegie and two daughters, Mrs. Bill Burge and Mrs. Clyde Mowdy, both of Coalgate; two brothers, A.B. Jones of Coalgate, and Marton Jones of Oklahoma City, nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
