© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, December 14, 1932 George Lewis Barney 1875 ~ 1932 Funeral services for G.L. Barney, who died of heart failure early Monday were held at the Christian church Wednesday at 2:30 o'clock and interment was made in the Carnegie cemetery. The church was crowded and an overflow group of friends went to the Methodist church to remain out of the during the services, which were conducted by Rev. W.S. Deatherage, pastor of the church. Mr. Barney had suffered no illness prior to his death. Monday morning he was in his usual good health and good spirits, Mrs. Barney said. He could not start his car and walked to his place of business, about four blocks. He arrived at the station about 7:30 and had been there only some ten minutes, when he slumped in his chair and passed away. George Lewis Barney was born in Sedgwick county, Kansas March 20, 1875, died Monday, Dec. 12, 1932 at 7:45 a.m., aged 57 years, 8 months and 22 days. He came to Oklahoma in October, 1901, and filed on a claim southeast of Carnegie. He was married to Miss Mary Money Feb. 5, 1902. To this union two daughters and a son were born, all of whom with the widow survived. The daughters, Miss Thelma Barney and Mrs. W.L. Wilsey, live in Oklahoma City, and the son, Oris L. Barney, lives in Anadarko. Oris and Mr. and Mrs. Wilsey attended the funeral, but Miss Thelma could not be present on account of illness. Mr. Barney is also survived by four brothers, Earl, Sedgwick county, Kans.; Frank, Kim, Colo.; John, Gallant, N.M.: and Jim, South Haven, Kans.; one sister, Mrs. F.C. © Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, August 1 1951 Mary Lily [Money] Barney ~ Mary Lilly Money, daughter of James P and Rachel Money, was born near Peoria, Illinois, moved to Missouri as an infant, and later to Kansas. Her husband, George Barney, drew a farm in the New Country on July 29 1901. He built a shack, plowed some ground and went back to Wichita to marry Mary. They were married 5 Feb 1902 in Sedgwick County, Kansas. They had three children: Thelma, Lois, and Oris. In 1920 they moved into Carnegie.
