© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, January 31, 1962 Thomas Jefferson Anderson 1875 ~ 1962 Carnegie Pioneer Dies; Funeral Is Held Here Sunday Funeral services for Jeff Anderson, retired farmer and pioneer resident of Carnegie and community, were held Sunday afternoon at the First Baptist church with Rev. Bob Williams, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Rev. Omer Delk, pastor of the New Harmony Baptist church, assisted. Interment was in the Carnegie cemetery. Anderson died Thursday in Oklahoma City. He had been in failing health for some time. Thomas Jefferson Anderson, son of Marcus and Sarah Anderson, was born August 1, 1875, in Cherokee County, Alabama. He was married to Goolie Mae Vaughn at Ladonia, Texas, on August 27, 1899. In 1907, the family moved to a farm north of Carnegie and later to a farm in the Union Corner community, northwest of town, where they resided until he retired from farming in 1940. They then moved to town where they lived until December, 1961, when he entered the Pioneer convalescent home in Oklahoma City. Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Anderson. Two daughters preceded him in death, Bertha in 1905, and Euncie in 1920. He had been a member of the Missionary Baptist church over 30 years. He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Palmer Hawkins, Oklahoma City; four sons, Glen of Oklahoma City, Joe E., Phoenix, Ariz., J.C. Mountain View, and Vernon, Oklahoma City;' one brother, Edd, Oklahoma City; five sisters, Mrs. Amanda Anthony, Guthrie, Mrs. Asilee Burge, Shawnee, Mrs. Stella Burge, Carnegie, Mrs. Nettie Pritchard, Phoenix, and Cynthia Martin, Lawton; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Anderson Funeral services for Mrs. Jeff Anderson, a pioneer resident of Carnegie and community, are set for 2 p.m. Thursday in the local First Baptist church with Rev. Bob Williams, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Burial will be in the Carnegie cemetery with Pitcher Funeral Home in charge. Mrs. Anderson was visiting in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Palmer Hawkins, Oklahoma City, when she became quite ill and died unexpectedly about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. She had been in failing health for sometime but apparently was as well as usual during the weekend. Goolie Mae Vaughn was born November 24, 1884, in Tennessee to William V. and Martha Vaughn. She was married to Thomas Jefferson Anderson at Ladonia, Texas, on August 27, 1899. In 1907 the family moved to a farm north of Carnegie and later to a farm in the Union Corner community northwest of town, where they resided until Mr. Anderson retired from farming in 1940. They then moved into town where they lived until December, 1961. Mr. Anderson died January 25 of this year. She had been living in a convalescent home in Oklahoma City for about four months. She was a member of the Baptist church. Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Anderson. Two daughters preceded her in death, Bertha in 1905, and Eunice in 1920. She is survived by one daughter; four sons, Glen, Oklahoma City, Joe E., Phoenix, Ariz., J.C., Mountain View, and Vernon, Oklahoma City; five brothers, Jessie Vaughn, Carnegie, Tommy of Odell, Texas, Jim and Elmer of Vernon, Texas, and Otis of Wichita Falls, Texas; six sisters, Mrs. Margaret McMillan, Henderson, Texas, Mrs. Dora Gilbert, Fort Worth, Mrs. Sally Satterfield, Pasadena, Tex., Mrs. Minnie Buchanan, Tex., and Mrs. Daisy Cannady of Quanah, Tex., and Mrs. Goolie Mae [Vaughn] Anderson November 24, 1883 ~ June 19, 1962 |
