© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, June 8, 1938 George Newell Anderson 1856 ~ 1938 Uncle George Anderson, pioneer homesteader of northwest of Carnegie, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J.C. Evans, Tuesday. He had been in ill health for three years, the last nine weeks confined to his bed. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church in Carnegie Wednesday afternoon and burial was made in the Carnegie cemetery. Services were conducted by Omer C. Delk, pastor of the New Harmony Baptist church. The Independent Order of Odd Fellows conducted the ceremony of the order at the cemetery. George Newell Anderson was born at Rome, Ga. Jan. 8, 1856, died June 7, 1938, aged 82 years, 5 months and 29 days. He was married to Miss Myrah Winkle Dec. 23, 1880 at Rome, Ga. To this union two children were born, both of whom survive, Mrs. Evans of Carnegie and Mrs. Nettie Young of Greenville, Tex. Mrs. Anderson died Feb. 28, 1901 at Rome, Ga. Mr. Anderson was converted at an early age. He joined the Baptist church of New Harmony in 1923 and has lived a devoted Christian life. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. For many years he owned and conducted a feed yard in Carnegie. besides the daughters he is survived by 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, a half sister and two half brothers. Mrs. Young and her daughter, Mrs. Anna Lee Deering, of Greenville were here for the funeral. George Newell Anderson< January 8, 1856 ~ June 7, 1938 |
