© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, December 22, 1937 William Alexander Akin 1864 ~ 1937 W.A. Akin, retire pioneer farmer of the Alden community died at his home in Carnegie Wednesday at 5 p.m. of pneumonia and heart trouble after an illness of only a few days. Funeral services will be held at the Alden Cumberland Presbyterian church Friday at 2:30 o'clock and burial will be made in the Carnegie cemetery. Rev. Elmer Kelly, Cumberland Presbyterian minister of Burns Flat, will have charge of the funeral services. William Alexander Akin was born in Marion county, Ala. November 24, 1864, died December 22, 1937, aged 73 years and 28 days. He was married to Mary Alice Campbell March 17, 1898 in LaMar county, Tex. To this union five sons were born, all of whom with the widow survive. They are Hubert Earl, Olton, Tex.; William Griffin, Ft. Cobb; Millard Eugene, Carnegie; Glennore, Oklahoma City, and Raymond Keester, Apache. From Texas Mr. and Mrs. Akin moved to Greer county, Okla. in 1906 and came to Caddo county in 1908, locating on a farm near Alden. They moved to Carnegie two years ago. © Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, February 25, 1942 Mary Alice [Campbell] Akin 1872 ~ 1942 Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Alice Akin who passed away at a Carnegie hospital early Tuesday, will be held at the First Christian church at 3:00 p.m. Thursday by Rev. T.T. Brown, pastor. Burial will be in the Carnegie cemetery with the Pitcher Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Akin had been in failing health for several years but became critically ill five weeks ago. Mary Alice Campbell was born in Johnson county, Kansas October 16, 1872. When seven years of age she moved to Lamar county, Texas where she grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage to William Alexander Akin at Honey Grove, Texas March 17, 1893. In 1907 the family moved to Greer county, Okla. and in May, 1908 moved to the south of Carnegie community where they resided until retiring from the farm. In 1935 they moved to the present home on East Third street. At an early age Mrs. Akin became a Christian and united with the Methodist church at White Rock, Texas. She was later a member of the Christian church and at the time of her death was a charter member of the Alden Cumberland Presbyterian church. Her husband preceded her in death December 22, 1937. She is survived by five sons, all of whom will be here for the funeral. They are H.E. and Raymond Akin of Olton, Texas; Wm. G. Akin of Jones, Glenn Akin, Atlanta, Ga. and M.E. Akin of Carnegie; also seven grandchildren and a brother, J. Ben Campbell of Merkel, Texas. She also leaves a host of friends and neighbors to mourn her passing.
