Franklin A. Smith
December 25, 1859 ~ July 27, 1928

The Bethel community was saddened last week by the death of Mr. Frank Smith. Mr. Smith has suffered a great deal and been very poorly ever since he had a stroke of paralysis about two years ago. He did not seem unusually ill however, upon retiring last Thursday evening, but about 2 o'clock in the morning Mrs. Smith spoke to him and when he did not answer, she got a light and soon saw that he had had another stroke.

They were all alone and had never had a phone put in as it is hard for Mrs. Smith to hear over one, so she had to go three quarters of a mile to get help.

He never gained consciousness again and passed away at 2:10 o'clock Friday afternoon.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Bethel church, conducted by Rev. Sullens, and he was laid away in the Bethel cemetery.

The flowers, all but four pieces of them were gathered from Mrs. Smith's own yard, where she tended them herself and were simply beautiful, the casket and the floor around being completely covered with them.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith came to this country twenty-one years ago and have lived ever since on the place they now own. He has many friends who join the sorrowing ones in their bereavement.

Franklin A. Smith was born in Harrison County, Missouri, December 25, 1859, died at his home near Bridgeport, July 27, 1928, aged 68 years, 7 months, and two days.

He was united with the Methodist church at the ago of 18 at Fairview, Missouri.

He was married to Margaret M. Shaw, October 25, 1879. Five children were born to this union two dying in infancy. One daughter, Rebecca A. Schmidt died two years ago. The children living are John L. Smith of DeNoya, Oklahoma and Mrs. Mary Winkleman of Cushing, Oklahoma.

He leaves to mourn a wife, one son, one daughter, 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, one sister and 5 brothers.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith with their family came to Grant Co. Oklahoma in 1894, and afterwards moved to Bridgeport in the spring of 1907, where they left Friday on business and to live ever since.
