Final Rites Friday For J.M. Ticer

Funeral services were held at 2:30 Friday afternoon for J.M. Ticer, long time resident of this community, who died at his home at Alfalfa Thursday. Rev. Fred J. Cox of Sentinel, a former pastor, conducted the services at the Alfalfa Baptist church assisted by Rev. O.E. Hill of the Methodist church.

Burial was in the Alfalfa cemetery under direction of Pitcher Funeral Home. James Monroe Ticer was born in Searcy county, Arkansas, January 2, 1855. He was 85 years, 10 months and 5 days old at his death.

At the age of 21 he was united in marriage to Rebecca Ward near Big Flat, Ark. To this union twelve children were born, eight of whom are living, three having died in infancy and Mrs. Dona McBride passing away in 1918.

Mr. and Mrs. Ticer moved from Arkansas to Oklahoma Territory in 1894, near Shawnee and came to this community in 1906 and have lived here since, with the exception of about one year spent in Shawnee.

Their golden wedding anniversary was observed in their Alfalfa home on February 29, 1926. Mrs. Ticer passed to her reward July 24, 1927.

In September, 1928, he married Mrs. Sally R. Doss of Alfalfa who passed away in October, 1934.

On July 28, 1936 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Fannie Oliver of Carnegie.

Besides his widow of the home address he is survived by eight children, Mrs. Martha Johnston, Portales, New Mexico; J.H. Ticer, Alfalfa; G.C. Ticer, Yakima, Washington; J.C. Ticer, Portales, New Mexico; Mrs. Anna Lue Fosse, Torrance, Calif.; Mrs. Bertha Simpson, Alfalfa; Mrs. Elsie Scholes, Fort Lupton, Colorado and Mrs. Opal Anderson, Yukon. All the children were present for the funeral except Mrs. Fosse, Mrs. Scholes and G.C. Ticer. He is also survived by 38 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren besides a number of other relatives and a host of friends.

He joined the Masonic lodge in 1892 and has been a Thirty-second degree Mason for about twenty years.

In November, 1921, he was baptized into the Missionary Baptist church of this place.

Sarah Rebecca "Sallie" [Moses] Ticer
February 22, 1858 ~ October 25, 1934


Mrs. J.M. Ticer passed away early Thursday morning, October 25 after a long illness.

Funeral services were held at the Alfalfa Baptist church at 10 a.m. Saturday by Rev. H.E. Darrow, pastor of the Alfalfa Methodist church, and interment was made in the Alfalfa cemetery.

Mrs. Ticer was born in Caldwell county, Texas February 22, 1858.

She became a Christian in her girlhood.

She is survived by her husband, J.M. Ticer, of Alfalfa and seven children by her former marriage.

The children are: E.D. and J.B. Doss of Waco, Texas; Henry Doss and Mrs. M.H. Holtzclaw of West Mooreland, Calif.; Mrs. Fannie C. Tubbs, Rosebud, Texas; W.P. Doss, Mexia, Texas, and M.L. Doss of Highland, Texas. She is also survived by twenty-one grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
