Setzer, Alfalfa Pioneer, Dies At Son's Home Tuesday Alfalfa--October 22 -- (Special) -- Andrew Wesley Setzer, resident of the Alfalfa community for the past 12 years, died at the home of his son, W.A. Setzer, at 6:15 a.m. Tuesday. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Baptist Church at Alfalfa with Elder Williams, pastor of the Church of Christ of Mountain View, officiating. Arrangements were in charge of the Pitcher Funeral Home and burial was in the Alfalfa cemetery. Mr. Setzer was born May 11, 1858 in Crawford County, Mo. and grew to young manhood there. He was married to Margaret Elizabeth Bizzell July 22, 1888 at Cureall, Mo. They made their home in Missouri and later in Texas before coming to Oklahoma 44 years ago. Mrs. Setzer died October 12, 1936. Mr. Setzer joined the Church of Christ in young manhood and was active until his health failed. Survivors include his son, Walter A. Setzer, Alfalfa; two daughters, Mrs. Lula Hodges, Elay, Ariz., and Mrs. Amanda Blair, Kiowa, Okla.; 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma October 21, 1936 June 20, 1868 ~ October 12, 1936 Grandmother Setzer Passes Away at 68 Margaret Elizabeth Bizzell was born June 20, 1868 in Independence county, Arkansas. She was converted and united with the Baptist church at the age of 18. She was married to A.W. Setzer of Curell, Mo. in 1888. To this union four children were born, one dying in infancy. Those surviving are Walter Setzer of Alfalfa; Mrs. Lula Hodges of Coolidge, Ariz., and Mrs. Amanda Blair of Mountain View. Besides her children she leaves he husband, A.W. Setzer, thirteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two brothers and four sisters. They are J.M. Bizzell, Foss; A.W. Bizzell, Tecumseh; Mrs. Frank Hodge, Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Sam Brown, Alfalfa. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma March 27, 1963 February 24, 1890 ~ March 20, 1963 Funeral Services For W.A. Setzer Funeral services for Walter A. Setzer, retired Carnegie farmer, were held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 22, in the Alfalfa Methodist church with Rev. Gene Nease, pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Alfalfa cemetery. Setzer had had the flu about four weeks before he entered the Anadarko hospital. He developed a vascular disorder and two and a half days later was transferred to Wesley hospital in Oklahoma City where he died ten days later on Wednesday, March 20. He was born February 24, 1890, in Howell county, Mo. He and his parents moved to Texas, then to Oklahoma when he was nine years of age. He was married to Rhoda Hopkins November 11, 1911, at Hobart, where they lived until coming to the Carnegie area in 1914. They lived 18 years on a farm a mile and a quarter east of Alfalfa, then moved to the present home a mile farther north in 1939. Mr. and Mrs. Setzer celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1961. Seven children were born to them, all of whom survive. One son, Virgil, was unable to attend services due to hospitalization with a heart condition. He is survived by his wife of the home; four sons, Alvin of Apache; Ervin, Virgil and Junior, all of Carnegie; three daughters, Mrs. Lyn Blackburn, Cyril, Mrs. R.E. McTee, Lomita, Calif., and Mrs. Neil Horn, Carnegie; one sister, Mrs. J.R. Blair, Tranquillity, Calif.; Mrs. Sam Brown, Carnegie, and Mrs. Frank Hodge, Long Beach, Calif.; 17 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and other relatives. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma April 24, 2013 January 9, 1931 ~ April 17, 2013 Claudine Setzer, 82, of Carnegie, passed away April 17, 2013 at the Carnegie Tri-County Municipal Hospital. She was born January 9, 1931 to Elmer and Lillian [Walton] Bridges in Swink, OK. Claudine worked as a Registered Nurse at Southwest Medical Center in Lawton, Binger Nursing Home and Carnegie Hospital. Claudine enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Kenneth Bridges. Survivors include her grandsons, Ryan Mark Baker of Carnegie and Jason Ray Setzer and wife, Marissa of Fort Cobb; two great grandchildren, Kayden Andrew Setzer and Jay Ray Setzer, two sisters, Letha Mitchell of Levelland, TX and Betty Williams and husband, Stanley of Clovis, New Mexico. Arrangements were under the direction of Ray & Martha's Funeral Home of Carnegie. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma February 13, 2013 November 2, 1948 ~ February 10, 2013 Doug Setzer, 64, of Eakly, OK passed away Sunday, February 10th, 2013. He was born November 2nd, 1948 to Ervin Andrew and Carolyn Lois [Hansen] Setzer in Carnegie, OK. He attended and graduated from Colony High School in 1966. He served in the United States National Guard. Doug was a farmer, rancher, worked on the oil rig, and also drove a truck. He enjoyed spending time with his family. Doug was a member of the First Baptist Church in Eakly, OK. Survivors include his two sons, Tony Setzer and wife, Tammy, Colony, OK, Scott Setzer and wife, Crystal, Yukon, OK, three daughters, Penny Setzer, Clinton, OK, Sarah Hoffman and husband, Brian, Arapaho, OK, Eryn Setzer, Carnegie, OK, seven grandchildren, Kade Setzer, Kadree Setzer, Braydon Setzer, Karley Setzer, Abigail Hoffman, Dylan Hoffman, Tyler Setzer one brother, Darell Setzer and wife Judy, Harrah, OK, one sister, Wanda Shaw and husband, Jim, Alfalfa, OK, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at the First Baptist Church, Eakly, OK. Burial will follow at the Alfalfa Cemetery under the direction of Ray & Martha's Funeral Home, Carnegie.
