© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, April 5, 1933 March 25, 1856 ~ March 30, 1933 Parthena Ryal Blassingame was born at Greenville, South Carolina March 25, 1856 and departed this life at Ft. Cobb, Okla. March 30, 1933 at the age of 77 years and five days. She was united in marriage to Samson Dees who preceded her in death on February 8, 1914. To this union fourteen children were born, six of whom preceded her in death. The deceased children are Mrs. Susie Shelton, Mrs. Millie Nalley, Annie Dees, George H. Dees, James Martin Dees and Frank Dees; those surviving are Mrs. Margrette Millwee, Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Scott, Mrs. Caroline Shelton, Wesley R. Dees, Jesse T. Dees, David S. Dees, Charlie W. Dees and Mark A. Dees. Besides her children she is survived by 39 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren and one brother, W.E. Blassingame, Bonham, Texas; two sisters, Sarah Alice Griggs, Dequeen, Ark. and Mary Cathrine Elliott, Dequeen, Ark. She was united with the Methodist church at 12 years of age and lived a devoted Christian life until she was called to rest. Rev. J.M. Burrows conducted the funeral service at the Alfalfa Baptist church Saturday afternoon, and interment was made in the Alfalfa cemetery. |

Dees Dies On August 30, George Harrison Dees, well known resident of the Carnegie community, departed from life unto check. He was born in Tipper county, Miss., reared in Arkansas and died at his home near Carnegie Okla., aged 54 years, 2 months and 11 days. He leaves his wife, mother, five brothers, three sisters and many other relatives and friends. The brothers are Dave Dees of Ft. Cobb Jess Dees and Wesley Dees of Carnegie, Mark Dees of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Charlie Dees of Gilmer, Texas. The sisters are Mrs. Margaret Millwee and Mrs. Caroline Shelton of Ft. Cobb and Mrs. Sallie Scott of Carnegie. In the home-going of Mr. Dees the community loses a good friend and neighbor. He was converted at the age of 39 years and lived a devoted Christian life since that time. He was married to Lucy Summerhill at DeQueen, Ark., September 21, 1902. Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at the Alfalfa Baptist church at 3 p.m. Monday by Rev. R.K. McGregor, pastor of the Carnegie Baptist church and interment was made in the Alfalfa cemetery under the direction of Ralph Harvey of Ft. Cobb. All the family were present except two brothers. "Blessed are the dead, who die in the Lord. They rest from their labors and their works follow them." |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, March 17, 1971 September 25, 1883 ~ March 13, 1971 Dees Services Held Monday Funeral services for Mrs. Lucy P. Dees, 88, a former Carnegie resident, were held Monday at the Pitcher Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jimmie Weston, Baptist minister at Alfalfa, officiated. Mrs. Dees died Saturday in an Oklahoma City hospital. Interment was in the Alfalfa Cemetery. She was born September 25, 1883, and was married in Arkansas in 1900 to George Dees. She and her husband moved to a farm northeast of Carnegie in 1910. She has made her home with a niece in Oklahoma City the past several years. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Ruth White of Texas; a sister-in-law, Mrs. M.F. Summerhill, Concord, Calif.; a niece, Mrs. Hazel Lee, Oklahoma; and a nephew, Pete Derieg of Carnegie. |

© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, January 22, 1930 January 19, 1916 ~ January 19, 1930 Luther Carl Dees died at the Chickasha hospital Sunday after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church at Alfalfa Monday at 2:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. R.K. McGregor. burial was made in the Alfalfa cemetery. Luther Carl Dees, son of Martin J. and Willie Lee Dees, was born January 19, 1916 near Prairie Lone, died January 19, 1930, aged 14 years. His mother died May 28, 1922, and his father died March 9, 1925. After the death of his parents he made his home with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. George Dees, until July 12, 1926, when he was adopted by his uncle and aunt, Jess T. and E. Bernice Dees. Since Luther's first illness Sept. 5, of last year his foster parents have had him in the Chickasha hospital, at St. Anthony's, Oklahoma City, and to the Colonial hospital, Rochester, Minn. His trouble was pronounced as insephlitis of the brain with no hope for a cure. He was returned to the Chickasha hospital Sept. 20 and remained there until his death. He leaves his foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jess T. Dees, Grandmother Dees, and a number of other relatives. |
Hydro, Oklahoma March 15, 2020 August 13, 1929 ~ March 15, 2020 Yvonne Dees was born August 13th, 1929, in her country home 6 miles from Eakly, Oklahoma. She grew up to marry Paul Leon Dees, Sr. on September 13th, 1947, in Wichita Falls, Texas. Three years later she gave birth to her one of a kind son Paul Leon Dees, Jr. They raised him and ran a peanut farm at her home in Hydro, Oklahoma. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse for several years and was a missionary for her church where she went to Haiti to help people find God. As a pianist, she helped lead the choir in all the churches she attended. She spent a lot of her extra time quilting, playing dominos, and golfing with her friends and family. She had the biggest heart and a deep love for music and the Lord. Yvonne had a beautiful voice; she was always singing her hymns. Yvonne wrote that her vision for her life would be for her family to all be saved, full of the Holy Spirit and under the blessing of Abraham; to be in divine health, full of wisdom, and have power to walk with God. Yvonne was 90 years old when she went to be with the Lord. Yvonne is survived by her sister Colene Johnson; her granddaughters Kim Kennedy and Angie Wood; her sister-in-law Vonnye Elkins; her nieces Carol Elkins Stanfield, Jeannie Elkins Brown, and Kenda Elkins Horne; her great-grandchildren Paige Cordova, Dylan Guerra, Dakota Guerra, Danielle Adams, Chase Wood, Hannah Wood, and Zoey Wood; and three great-great-grandchildren Noah Trask, Decklen Cordova Ingmire, and Carter Young. Yvonne was preceded in death by her husband Paul Dees, Sr., her son Paul Dees, Jr., and brother Boynton Wesnidge. Paul was born on November 14, 1950 in Fort Cob Hall Clinic in Oklahoma. Paul Dees, Jr. grew up around the Fort Cobb Lake area. He started school at Alfalfa and graduated Salutatorian from Oney High School. He grew up working on the peanut farm with his father Paul Dees, Sr. and always claimed “I am a peanut farmer’s son.” He graduated with his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and Business from Southwestern University and started working at Conoco Phillips in 1974 where he worked for 34 years. Paul is survived by his mother Yvonne Dees from Hydro, Oklahoma, daughter, Kim Kennedy from Ponca, Oklahoma and Angie Wood from Temple, Texas. He is also survived by Aunt Vonnye Elkins, seven grandchildren, Paige Cordova, Dylan and Dakota Guerre, Danielle Adams and Chase, Hanna, and Zoey Wood. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Dees, Sr., his grandparents, Charles and Audye Dees, Aunt, Floy Dees, his Uncle, Tom and Aunt Zella Wesnidge, Tom Wesnidge, Sr., uncle Kenneth Elkins. Paul will be laid to rest at Alfalfa Cemetery in Carnegie, Oklahoma. Paul Dees Jr. had hand written this scripture that was sitting on his nightstand: "Christ is able to meet every need we have.” Ephesians 3:14.20 and he wrote “His love goes deep". His mother, Yvonne Dees, dedicated this scripture to Paul Dees Jr.: "Come to Me all you who are weary and burdened, for I am gentle and humble, take my yoke upon you and learn from Me and I will give you rest.""
