William Madison Bishop

W.M. Bickford Dies After Long Illness

Services Thursday

Will M. Bishop, 75, died at his home, 202 East Ash, at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday after being in failing health since last May. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the baptist church here and burial will be in the Alfalfa cemetery under direction of the Harvey Funeral Home of fort Cobb. Rev. Jess Crawford will preach the sermon.

William Madison Bishop was born Oct. 2, 1875, in Fanning county, Texas. The family came to Oklahoma in 1894 and located in Pottawatomie county. Bishop and his two brothers came to Caddo county in 1906, locating north of Fort Cobb. They have lived in and around Carnegie for 40 years.

William and his brother, S.E., who lived together were both bachelors. William was a member of the Oakdale Baptist church east of Eakly.

Survivors besides the brother, S.E., with whom he made his home, are a brother, J.E. and a sister, Mrs. Ollie Anderson, both of this place.

James Elby Bishop

Funeral Services For J. E. Bishop Are Held Sunday

Last rites for James Elby Bishop were held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist church with Rev. Walter Williams, pastor of the Sharon Baptist church near Gotebo, officiating. Rev. J.B. Shinn, local pastor, assisted. Burial was in the Alfalfa cemetery.

Bishop, a native of Texas, had been ill for several weeks. He was transferred from the Carnegie hospital to an Anadarko hospital about a week before he died Friday.

He was born December 23, 1880. He came to Carnegie community many years ago from Stratford, Okla. He and his twin brother, S.E. Bishop, and a sister, Mrs. Ollie Anderson, lived a mile east of Carnegie before moving into town.

He was married to Jessie Thornton on July 16, 1947, at Cordell. He had been a Christian since 1892 and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include the widow of the home; his twin brother, S.E. Bishop, Carnegie; his sister, Mrs. Ollie Anderson of Lawton; and five step-sons, Preston, Jesse and Roy Thornton, all of Carnegie, E.D. Thornton, Cement, and R.B. Thornton, Oklahoma City.
