© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, May 3, 1972 May 5, 1884 ~ April 29, 1972 Service Held For Pioneer Funeral services for Henry Jacob Schmidt, 87, a retired farmer, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Alden Community church. Rev. Bob Williams, pastor of the local Church of the Nazarene, officiated Schmidt died Saturday, April 29. Interment was in the Alden cemetery. He was born May 5, 1884, at Mound Ridge, Kansas and came to Caddo county in 1901. He had resided in this area since. He was married to the former Mary Jantz, May 16, 1909, at Neola school in the Alden community. He was a member of the Alden Mennonite church. He was preceded in death by one son, Donald L. in 1946. Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Edward H. of Weatherford and John J. of Carnegie; one daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Dietrich, Yukon; two brothers, Fred J. and Jake of Carnegie; one sister, Mrs. L.A. Shuster, Carnegie; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, August 20, 1941 December 11, 1890 ~ August 14, 1941 Rites Friday For Pete J. Schmidt Pete J. Schmidt, former resident of this community, died Thursday, Aug. 14 in a Chickasha hospital. Mr. Schmidt was born December 11, 1890 at Mound Ridge, Kansas and moved with his parents to Caddo county in 1902. He enlisted to serve his country September 5, 1918 and was discharged from service February 1, 1919. He was married to Miss Hazel Postman in April 1921. To this union was born one son, Francis Jay. Besides his family he leaves his father, J.B. Schmidt, Carnegie; five brothers, Jake, Yukon; Dan, Carnegie; Albert, Meno; Fred, Ft. Cobb, and Henry, Apache; two sisters, Mary Schmidt, Carnegie, and Mrs. Anna Lowry of Anadarko. His mother and one brother preceded him in death. Services were held in the Alden church at 3:00 p.m. Friday with Rev. Garland Howard, assisted by Rev. T. T. Brown in charge. Members of the Carnegie Legion post were pallbearers and the Legion according military honors at the grave. The burial was in the Alden cemetery. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, November 9, 1977 October 18, 1892 ~ November 1, 1977 Rites Held For Alden Pioneer Funeral for Mrs. Mary Schmidt, 85, Carnegie, who died last Tuesday in a hospital here, were at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Alden Community Church. Rev. Bob Williams, pastor of the Carnegie Church of the Nazarene, officiated. Burial was in Alden Cemetery under direction of Fort Cobb Funeral Home. Mrs. Schmidt was born October 18, 1892 in Moundridge, Kan. and came to Pauls Valley as a young girl. She was married to Henry Jacob Schmidt in May, 1909 at the Neola School. He died in 1973. Mrs. Schmidt was a member of the Greenfield Mennonite Church and the Royal Neighbors of America. Survivors include two sons, Edward H., of Weatherford, and John J. of Carnegie; a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Dietrich of Yukon; a brother, Dan Jantz, Oklahoma City' and three sisters, Mrs. Anna Foglestrom, Casmere, Wash.; Mrs. Kate Unruh, Meno, Okla.; and Mrs. Philbeana Janz, Inola; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Donald, in 1946. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, August 27, 1975 January 11, 1897 ~ August 24, 1975 Service Held For Veteran Funeral services for Jake Schmidt, 78, a longtime Carnegie resident were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the local Church of the Nazarene. Rev. Bob Williams, pastor, officiated. Schmidt died early Sunday morning at his home in Carnegie. He had been in failing health for several years. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion post here. He was a retired ammunitions plant worker. Survivors include one brother, Fred, and one sister, Mrs. Mary Shuster, both of Carnegie. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, March 4, 1959 November 9, 1899 ~ March 2, 1959 Graveside Rites Held Wednesday For Dan Schmidt Graveside rites for Dan Jacob Schmidt were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Alden cemetery with Rev. Bob Williams, Church of the Nazarene pastor, officiating. Schmidt, 59 years of age, died in the Carnegie hospital Monday morning, March 2. A native of Mound Ridge, Kansas, he was born November 9, 1899, and when two years old moved with his parents to Meno, Okla. The family moved to a farm south of Carnegie in 1902, and in 1933 they moved to Carnegie where he made his home until his death. He was a veteran of World War II. Survivors include two sister, Mrs. L.A. Schuster, Carnegie, and Mrs. Anna Lowry, Fort Cobb; four brothers, Henry and Jake of Carnegie, Fred of Apache and Albert of Meno. His parents and two brothers preceded him in death. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, April 24, 1946 03/Oct/1921 ~ April 22, 1946 Taps will be sounded at Alden Friday afternoon for Donald L. Schmidt, World War II veteran, who died at the veterans' hospital in Muskogee Monday night. Rev. Rudolph Schmidt will deliver the funeral sermon at the Alden Union church at 2:30 and burial will be made in the Alden cemetery under auspices of the American Legion. Bearers will be his former schoolmates and buddies. Schmidt's was in a long campaign. His battle assignment did not end with his discharge. There was no V-E day for him. He received an injury to his right leg at the Midland, Texas airfield that caused an infection and resulted in the amputation of the limb at the hip. He spent long months in the hospital, received and mastered the use of a new GI limb and was discharged in March, 1945. He never lost his cheerful outlook, was proud of his service in the army and had enrolled in an aeronautical school where he was preparing himself for future life. A month ago he suffered another attack from his old enemy which he could not overcome. Donald Laverne Schmidt was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Schmidt and was born near Alden October 3, 1921.Mary [Jantz] Schmidt He lived his entire life in the Alden and Carnegie communities.Mary [Jantz] Schmidt His school life was spent at Alden where he graduated in 1939.Mary [Jantz] Schmidt He was working at J.B. Schmidt, and a sister, Elizabeth, and many other near relatives and friends. |
