Schlegel, Early Resident, Dies Wednesday Moses Berdett Schlegel 1857–1929, old time resident of the community south of Carnegie, died at his home Wednesday of last week after an illness of seven weeks. Funeral services were held at the Alden Union church Thursday afternoon by Rev. W.C. Crawford, and interment was made in the Alden cemetery. Mr. Schlegel has lived on his farm eight miles south and three west of town for the past 26 years, coming here in 1902. Moses Berdett Schlegel 1857–1929 was born in Northumberland county, Pa. Oct. 25, 1857 and died near Carnegie Wednesday, February 20, 1929, aged 71 years, 5 months and 6 days. He was married to Sarah Elizabeth Faulk May 26, 1876. To this union eight children were born, three of whom died in infancy, one at the age of 14 and one daughter, Naomi, at the age of 48. He is survived by his widow, two sons, Harley E. and Marshall B. of this place and Mrs. Laura Butler of California. He also has 12 grand children and 4 great grand children and an aged sister, Mrs. Lewis Haffer, of Jewel City, Kans. and many other relatives. The respect and appreciation the community held for him was shown by the beautiful flowers and the large crowd that attended the funeral services. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, January 16, 1935 March 24, 1859 ~ January 13, 1935 Mrs. M.B. Schlegel died at the Patterson hospital in Carnegie Sunday evening, January 13, after an illness of several weeks. Funeral services were held at the Alden Union church Wednesday afternoon by Rev. Ray Hance of Bethany, assisted by Rev. M.H. Chaney of the Spring Valley church, interment being made in the Alden cemetery. Sarah E. Folk []Faulk] was born in Lancaster county, Pa., March 24, 1859 and died at the age of 75 years, 9 months and 20 days. She was married to Moses B. Schlegel May 26, 1876, who preceded her in death six years. To this union eight children were born, three of whom died in infancy, and one at the age of 14 and one daughter at the age of 48. She is survived by two sons, Harley E. Schlegel and Marshal B. Schlegel, and one daughter, Laura C. Butler, all of Carnegie, and an aged brother, living at Erickson, Pa. There are twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and many other distant relatives. She was united with the Lutheran church at the age of 15, later transferring her membership to the Methodist church. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbor lodge for a number of years. The family moved to Kiowa county, Okla., from Nebraska in 1902, living on their farm eight miles south and three miles west of town south of Carnegie for the past 32 years. Mrs. Schlegel was very well known in and about this vicinity and the respect and appreciation for her was shown by the beautiful floral offerings and large attendance at the services. |
