© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, July 28, 1971 September 26, 1911 ~ July 24, 1971 Alden Farmer Dies In Kansas Mishap Funeral services for Lawrence Elvis McKee, 59-year-old Alden farmer who was killed in an automobile accident last Saturday near St. Francis, Kans., were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Cumberland Presbyterian church at Alden. McKee apparently had suffered a heart attack before the pickup he was driving failed to manipulate a sharp curve two mile east and two miles north of wheeler, Kansas. He had been working with a combine crew with Jack Moore, local farmer, when the accident occurred. They had just finished combining and had loaded a combine on a truck. They were planning to spend the night there before leaving early the next morning for the harvest in Montana. McKee had started back to the field to pick up his tool box when the accident occurred. A family driving about three-quarters of a mile from the scene, saw a cloud of dust, drove up to investigate and found McKee in the wreckage. They summoned the sheriff and an ambulance. McKee, born September 26, 1911, had resided in the Alden community since the early 1930s. He was a farmer. Survivors include his wife, Ocie, of the home; two daughters, Joy Nell Shepherd, Shreveport, La., and Lynda Compton, Hinton; one sons Richard E., Carnegie; two brothers, Richard Hamby McKee, Oakridge, Ore., and Cephas McKee, Hot Springs, Ark., and one sister, Flossie Boone, Stockton, Calif. Rev. Mack Spegall, pastor, officiated. Burial was at the Alden cemetery under the direction of Pitcher Funeral Home. |
