Jones, Long Time Alden Farmer Final rites were in the Alden Presbyterian church at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon for T.J. Jones, 87, Carnegie community pioneer, who died at Oklahoma City early Friday. He had been in ill health the past two years. Rev. D.C. Murphee, pastor, conducted the service and burial was made in the Alden cemetery. Jones, with his family, came to Carnegie from Eldorado, Kans. in 1905 and located 13 miles south of town where they lived about 10 years and later lived seven miles south. In recent years he spent some time in Anadarko and Oklahoma City but always considered Carnegie his home. Thomas Jefferson Jones was born in Jackson, Ohio, August 20, 1860. He moved to Kansas and as a young man taught school several terms. He was married to Miss Dora Reed in Pontiac, m Kan. October 16, 1886. To them 12 children were born, two dying in infancy. Mrs. Jones died in 1930. He was converted in early manhood and joined the Alden Presbyterian church in 1929. Survivors are five sons, E. Arch Jones, Carnegie; Ernest C. Jones, Stockton, Calif.; Geo. D. and Dave L. Jones, Oklahoma City; and Charles L. Jones, Apache, and five daughters, Mrs. Mabel Jared, Apache; Mrs. Eva Larmer, Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Alice Smith, Apache; Mrs. Ethel Boyd, Long Beach, and Mrs. Opal Ferguson, Oildale, Calif. Also surviving are 28 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. All of the children were here for the service except Ernest C. Jones. Among other relatives from a distance here were his niece, Mrs. Sam Pipkin, Wichita; Marvin Jared, Manhatten, Kan.; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Allen Jared, Lubbock, Texas, and Mr. Ferguson, Oildale, Calif. |

We all extend our warm sympathy to Mr Jones and family. It is so hard to part with ones we love so dear. Everybody was a friend of Mrs Jones and grieve over the loss of one who will never be forgotten. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, February 1930 November 4, 1871 ~ February 9, 1930 Mrs. T.J. Jones Dies At Home South Of Carnegie Mrs. J.T. Jones died at the family home south of Carnegie Sunday. Funeral services were held at the residence Monday at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. M.C. Scrudder. Burial was made in the Alden cemetery under the auspices of the Royal Neighbors of which organization Mrs. Jones was a member. Dora Isabella Reed was born in Shelby county, Ill. November 4, 1871, died February 8, 1930, aged 58 years, 3 months and 5 days. She was united in marriage to Thomas Jefferson Jones October 16, 1887. to this union twelve children were born, two dying in infancy. The husband and the following children survive: Evan Archabald Jones, Mrs. Mable Blanche Jared, Ernest Jones, David Lester Jones, Charles Logan Jones, and Mrs. Alice Marjorie Smith, all of Apache; Mrs. Eva Iona Larmer, Kansas City, Mo; George Dewey Jones, Oklahoma City; and Ethel Mae and Opel Lois who are at home. She is also survived by three brothers, J.W. Reed, Eureka, Kans.; A.V. Reed, Gordon, Kans.; and A.C. Reed, Elizabeth, Calif.; and two sisters, Mrs. John Rinkin, Towanda, Kans.; and Mrs. Sarah Whitaker, Chickasha. Sister Jones was converted and joined the Methodist church at the age of 18, and lived a devoted member until September 29, 1929, when she placed her membership in the Cumberland Presbyterian church at Alden, remaining a true and loyal member until her death. |
