© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, January 24, 1945 Lyddia Ann "Anna" [Gatewood] Johnson Mrs. Johnson Dies At Daughter's Home Wednesday, 15th Mrs. Sam Johnson, 82, died January 17 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. P.B. Walter, where she was visiting a few days. She was stricken with a heart attack. A resident of the community south of town since 1902, Mrs. Johnson was among the pioneer women who helped develop the new country. For many years she taught a Sunday school class at the Dixie school and had been a member of the Royal Neighbors at Alden. She became a member of the Christian church at the age of 16. Lyddia Ann Gatewood, was born July 1, 1862. At the age of 15 she was married to Samuel Johnson and to them nine children were born, four preceded her in death. The family moved from Illinois to Oklahoma in 1902. Mr. Johnson died in October, 1928. Survivors are two sons, Frank and Bill Johnson Carnegie; and three daughters, Mrs. Maude Moore, Kennewick, Wash.; Mrs. Lelia Walter and Mrs. Stella Butler of Carnegie. Also 19 grandchildren and four great grandchildren; a brother, W.A. Gatewood, Flora, Ill., and a sister, Mrs. Florence Williams, Anadarko. Funeral services were conducted by Arnold Davis, minister of the Carnegie Christian church and burial was made in the Alden cemetery under direction of the Pitcher funeral home. Here from out of town for the funeral were Mrs. Florence Williams, Mrs. Genevieve Nikel and Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Crabtree of Anadarko; Mrs. and Mrs. C.H. Swagerty and Genta and Beatrice Johnson of Taloga. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, July 17, 1935 November 16, 1865 ~ July 14, 1935 Mrs. Zimmerman's Father Dies At Home Near Hinton Funeral services were conducted at the home near Hinton at 1 p.m. Tuesday for Isaac Johnson, 79, and interment was made in the Alden cemetery. Mr. Johnson formerly lived south of Carnegie and is the father of Mrs. C.E. Zimmerman. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, January 6, 1965 December 5, 1878 ~ December 31, 1964 Services Held At Hinton Funeral services for Mrs. Nina Johnson, Hinton, grandmother of Gene Zimmerman and aunt of M.G. Eaton, both of Carnegie, were held Saturday at the Hinton Funeral Home chapel. Burial was in the Alden cemetery. Mrs. Johnson died Thursday. She was 86 years of age. Surviving her are four sons including Tom of Watonga; three daughters, Mrs. Willis Oxtoby, Hinton, and Mrs. Laura Zimmerman and Mrs. Rose Mary Slife, both of Mountain View, and other relatives. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, March 10 1920 March 6, 1888 ~ February 23, 1920 Joe Andy Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Johnson was born in Corsicana, MO on March 6, 1888 and died February 23, 1920 near Alden. From Missouri the family moved to Noble, Ill where they lived for a number of years coming to Oklahoma in 1902 and lived near Alden until his death. He married to Vivian Booth June 11, 1916. The had two children, a boy and a girl. He leaves a wife and two children and father and mother; 3 sisters, 2 brothers; Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Johnson, Mrs. J.F. Butler, Frank Johnson, Mrs. P.B. Walter, Maudie and Billy Johnson all of Alden except Frank of near Mountain View. |
