© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, March 31, 1943 1861 ~ March 24, 1943 Final Rites For E.S. Hunter Erwin S. Hunter was born in Clarksville, Tenn. in 1861 and passed away at Carnegie, Oklahoma March 24, 1943, being in his 82nd year. Mr. Hunter was the son of Rev. and Mrs. Robert S. Hunter of Tennessee and Missouri. Rev. Hunter was a prominent and useful preacher in the Southwest Missouri conference of the Methodist Episcopal church South for many years and Erwin Hunter joined the Methodist church when he was a small boy in Tennessee. The deceased came to Oklahoma probably sixty years ago and the major part of that time has lived on his farm south of Carnegie, near Alden. He was a modest man, cheerful and likeable and had the confidence and respect of his neighbors and of the business men of Carnegie, many of whom were present at his funeral, which was conducted in the chapel of the Pitcher Funeral Home in Carnegie Thursday, March 25, at 3 p.m., by Dr. W.G. Beasley, pastor of the Carnegie Methodist church in the presence of many friends who gathered to do him honor. His body was laid to rest in the cemetery at Alden. Survivors include a brother, C.E. Hunter of Jefferson City, Mo., and two sisters, Mrs. George Stephens of Sacramento, Calif., and Mrs. A.J. Mauldin of Sapulpa, Okla. |
