© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, October 21, 1964 March 1864 ~ July 19, 1951 E.R. Harding Rites Held 2 P.M. Sunday; Interment at Alden E.R. Harding, 87, pioneer in the Alden community, died at his home south of Hydro Thursday after an illness of 10 days. He had been in failing health for the past four years. Services were at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Christian church at Hydro and burial was in the Alden cemetery. Rev. Harry Hubbard, minister of the Christian church of Carnegie, preached the sermon. Embrer Richard Harding was born March 9, 1864, in Fort Mitchell, Va. He spent his young manhood in Kentucky. He was married to Rachel Izetta Cox January 25, 1888, in Dalton, Mo. They lived in Virginia and Missouri before coming to the Alden community in 1908. In 1930 the Hardings purchased a farm six miles south of Hydro where they have since resided. Mr. Harding was united with the High Hill Baptist church in Lowry City, Mo., in 1907 and continued in that faith until his death. For more than 40 years he was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America.v Survivors are the widow, Mrs. Rachel Harding; eight sons, Witt, Irwin, Mo.; Cabell, Colville, Wash.; Ben Hawthorne, Nev.; Kirtley, Hydro; Rufuas, Webb; Sam, Ozark, Ark., and Howard and Larry, Checotah, and four daughters, Mrs. Julia Stenger and Mrs. Pearl Richards, Carnegie; Mrs. Dollie Balden, Enid, and Mrs. Alice Murphy, Hydro. They also reared two grandsons, S/Sgt. Jamie Harding of Enid and Pfc. Raymond Harding who is stationed in Korea. Also surviving are 45 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, October 21, 1964 July 14, 1867 ~ October 19, 1964 Mrs. Rachel Harding, one of Carnegie's oldest citizens, died Monday night at the Carnegie hospital. She had entered the hospital that afternoon. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the local First Christian church with Rev. Neal Lovell, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Alden cemetery. Mrs. Harding and her son, Kirtley, with whom she had made her home the past 28 years, had moved to Carnegie July 10 from their home near Hydro. Rachel Cox was born in Franklin county, Va. on July 14, 1867. She was married to E.R. Harding January 25, 1888, at Chariton, Mo. Thirteen children were born to them. She and her family moved to Oklahoma in 1907. After a year at Apache, they moved to the community south of Carnegie where the family was reared, and then to the farm near Hydro. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1952, two sons, Rufus of Santa Maria, Calif., and one in infancy, and two daughters, Mrs. Julia Stenger, Carnegie, and Mrs. Alice Murphy, Weatherford. She had been a member of the Christian church many years and had placed her membership in the local church a few weeks ago. She is survived by seven sons, Witt of Liberal, Kans., Cabell, Kinkland, Wash., Ben and Kirtley of Carnegie, Howard, Boyington, Okla., Sam of Ozark, Ark., and Larry of Council Hill, Okla.; two daughters, Mrs. Dollie Balden, Enid, and Mrs. Pearl Richards, Carnegie; 47 grandchildren, many great and great-great-grandchildren, and one brother, Jack Cox, Leavenworth, Kans. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, May 29, 1957 June 17, 1906 ~ May 26, 1957 Former Resident Is Killed In Kansas Accident Last rites for Mrs. Bertha M. Wise Harding, Abilene, Kansas, former resident of the Carnegie community, were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Alden Presbyterian church, rev. L.A. Taft, pastor of the Apache Baptist church, officiated. Burial was in the Alden cemetery. Mrs. Harding, 50 years old, had been to Salina, Kansas, Sunday to visit her brother, Everett Wise, who was not at home. She returned to Abilene and when she stepped from the bus a car struck her. Death followed in a short while. She was born June 17, 1906, in the Dixie community, south of Carnegie, the eldest daughter of E.W. and Myrtle Wise. She was reared in the Dixie community and was married in June, 1925, to J.B. Harding, Carnegie. They established a home in Oklahoma City where they lived for several years, later moving to Jasper, Arkansas. Mrs. Harding had made her home in Abilene for the past two years. She had visited here many times in the past few years in the home of her sister-in-law and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Richards. She was a member of the Baptist church in Jasper. Survivors include; five sons, James E. of Altus, Billy J. of Parma, Ohio, Raymond E. of Albuquerque, Ollie W. of Fort Riley, Kansas, and Tommy T. of Pruett, Arkansas; one sister, Mrs. Helen Comber of Colorado; two brothers, Everett of Salina and Orville Wise of Pruett; and six grandchildren. All of her sons except Ollie were here for the services. Pallbearers were old friends from her childhood, Bill Johnson, L.R. Jones, Earl Brewington, Lee Richards, Floyd Moore and Charley Johnson. |
© Enid News and Eagle Enid, Oklahoma December 22, 2008 Ada Rhee [Messenger] Harding October 5, 1926 ~ December 19, 2008 The graveside service for Ada Rhee Harding, 82-year-old Enid resident will be 2 p.m. today, Dec. 23, 2008, in Alden Cemetery , Carnegie, Oklahoma, with Pastor Mike Suiter officiating. Services are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. Ada was born October 5, 1926, in Hillsdale the daughter of Martin Messenger and Goldie [Overton] Messenger and died Friday, December 19, 2008, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center. She attended school in Pond Creek until her father's passing and then the family moved to Enid where she graduated from high school. She married James Harding July 22, 1951. They traveled for 22 years with the military before settling in Enid in 1967. Ada enjoyed talking on the phone, helping and caring for others and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Karen Suiter and her husband Jerry of Enid and JaRee Reisner of Cherokee; four grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one son, Rick Harding. Memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation-Alzheimer's Division, with Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home acting as custodian of the fund. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma October 8, 2003 Richard Martin "Rick" Harding January 7, 1954 ~ September 29, 2003 Funeral services for Richard "Rick" Harding, 49, of Carnegie were held Friday, October 3, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Assembly of God Church in Lawton with Rev. Don Barnes and Rev. Gary Pratt officiating. Rick was born January 7, 1954 in Enid to James E. and Ada Rhee [Messenger] Harding and died Monday, September 29, 2003 after a short battle with cancer. Rick graduated from Enid High School. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service to his country as a Master Sergeant. He married Elizabeth Ann Kobs on March 11, 2000 in Weatherford. He loved to fish and hunt. His pride and joy was his wife, baby daughter, his family and his salvation. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Lawton. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of the home; his daughter, Jessica Ann Harding of the home; his mother, Ada Rhee Harding of Enid; two sisters, Ja Ree Reisner and Karen Suitter and husband, Jerry, all of Enid; one niece, Desiree Suitter of Alva; two nephews, James Reiser and wife, Trina of Waukomis and Luis Reisner of Enid. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Benjamin and Bertha; his father, James Harding, C.C. and Pearl Richards [the ones who raised him]; one uncle, Lee Messenger and one aunt, June Aitkson. Burial was in the Alden Cemetery in Carnegie under the direction of the Pitcher-Hackney Funeral Home in Carnegie. The family asks that memorial contributions may be made to the Alden Cemetery. |
