© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, October 1, 1930 February 10, 1864 ~ September 28, 1930 Thos. Cummins Dies At Home Sun. Night. Thomas Cummins, well known resident of the community south of town for the past 22 years, died at his home Sunday night after being in failing health for several months. Funeral services were held at the Alden Union Church at 3:00 p.m. Monday and interment was made in the Alden cemetery. Rev. W.A.R. Lovel conducted the services. Members of the Alden camp of the Modern Woodmen of which organization Mr. Cummins was a member, acted as pallbearers and the lodge rendered him honors at the grave. He was also a charter member of the Lone Star chapter of the A.H.T.A. The large attendance at the funeral services attested to the esteem in which he was held in the community where he had lived so long. Thomas Cummins was born at Gregory, Mo. February 10, 1864 and died at his home near Carnegie, Oklahoma, September 28, 1930 aged 66 years, 7 months and 16 days. He was married to Hannah Elizabeth Higbee, October 23, 1888. To this union nine children were born, seven of whom are living. Mrs. Cummins died in April, 1920. A son, Arthur R. Cummins, died January 27, 1919 and a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Mae Charles, died November 14, 1925. Mr. Cummins is survived by three sons and four daughters, all of whom were present at the funeral. They are Mrs. Bessie Carter, Walter E. Cummins and James T. Cummins of Branson, Colo.; Mrs. Annie Moore and Miss Laural Cummins of Goltry, Mrs. Edith Gregg of Alice, Texas and Harry L. Cummins of Carnegie. Mr. Cummins moved to Oklahoma with his family in 1908 and located on the farm six miles south and two and one-half east where he made his home almost continually until the time of his death. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, March 3, 1920 March 8, 1868 ~ February 26, 1920 Hannah Elizabeth Higbee was born March 8, 1868, near Winchester, Clark County, Missouri, the daughter of Ellis Higbee and Margaret Olivia Gilkerson, Margaret's parents immigrated from Scotland to the United States. She was the second of 4 girls born to Ellis and Margaret. On October 23, 1888, Hannah Higbee married Thomas Cummins Junior in St. Patrick, Missouri. His parents, Thomas Cummins Sr. and Ellen Margaret Whalen, immigrated to the United States from Ireland. To this union nine children were born; 1. Bessie Margaret 3 Oct 1889; 2. Arthur Robert 23 Jan 1891; 3. Water Ellis 24 Mar 1893; 4. James Thomas 20 May 1895; 5. Annie Oliva 17 May 1897; 6. Elizabeth Mae 12 Jan 1900; 7. Harry Lee 26 Sept 1903; 8. Edith Caroline 29 Nov 1905; 9. Lural Bell 26 Jun 1908 Hannah died on February 26, 1920 from peritonitis from a ruptured gall bladder. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, February 1, 1919 January 23, 1891 ~ January 27, 1919 Arthur Robert Cummins was born in Clark county, Mo., January 3, 1891, and came to Oklahoma with his parents March 3, 1908. In the summer of 1914 he went to Clara, Montana, where he took up a homestead and taught school for two years, then went to school for two years, then went to Wallom, where he went into the real estate and loan business until June, 1918, when he came home expecting to be called to the colors. In September, 1918, he was employed by the American National Bank at Oklahoma City until he was taken with the flu that caused pneumonia, from which he died January 27, 1919, aged 28 years and 4 days. He leaves to mourn his parents, Thomas and Hannah Cummins and five sisters and three brothers as follows: Mrs. Bessie M. Carter of Branson, Colo.; Walter E., late of France; Jimmie T., Camp Logan, Tex.; Anna of Branson, Colo.; Lizzie, Harry, Edith and Lural, at home. The funeral was held at Alden Thursday, Jan. 30, at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. W.V. Griffith of Carnegie. The remains were laid to rest in the Alden cemetery. |
