Pioneer Fort Cobb Woman Dies Wednesday

Fort Cobb -- Funeral services for Mrs. Lena Hartwell a pioneer resident of Fort Cobb will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Fort Cobb Methodist church with Rev. Claire Payette pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in the Oak Grove cemetery with the Fort Cobb Funeral home in charge.

Mrs. Hartwell, who lived alone in her home at Fort Cobb was found dead early Wednesday morning by her sister, Mrs. Bessie McClure.

Fort Cobb Rites Held Friday For Pioneer Woman

Fort Cobb -- Funeral services for Mrs. Lena Hartwell, 77, were held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Fort Cobb Methodist church with Rev. Claire Payette, pastor, officiating.

Burial was in the Albert cemetery.

Mrs. Hartwell died in her sleep early Wednesday morning, May 25. She had been in ill health for some time. She had attended a music recital Tuesday evening to hear her great-granddaughters play and had visited with friends later.

When she did not answer her telephone about 9 o'clock Wednesday morning her sister, Mrs. Bessie McClure, went to her home to investigate. She apparently had been dead a few hours.

She was born December 31, 1882, in Lawrence county, Missouri. She was married to Wm. R. Hartwell at Crane, Mo., in 1899. They had been residents of the Fort Cobb community for about 50 years.

Her husband died in 1915.

She is survived by a son,l Homer Hartwell of Coldwater, Kansas; a daughter, Mrs. Leonard Millwee, Fort Cobb; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Etta Crall, Weatherford, Mrs. Fred Pond, Anadarko, Mrs. Edith Stine, Hagerman, N.M., Mrs. McClure of Fort Cobb and Mrs. Justis Millwee, El Reno; and two brothers, John Morrison, Watonga and Emery Morrison, Crane, Mo.
