© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, January 23, 1957 Clarence Adolphus Edwards March 28, 1879 ~ January 20, 1957 Clarence Edwards Funeral Services Are Held At Oney Funeral services for Clarence A. Edwards, Oney, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Oney Baptist church with Jack Stewart officiating, assisted by Rev. Lee Slatten. Burial was in the Oney cemetery. Mr Edwards, 77, died at his home at Oney Sunday morning following a stroke a short time earlier. He operated the Oney gin for many years. He was born March 28, 1879, in Johnson county, Ark. He married the former Miss Florence Parker in Clarksville, Ark., on April 5, 1900. He and his family moved to Oney in 1913 where he had farming interests and the gin. Survivors include the wife of the home; three sons, Drew and Hoyt of Oney, and Cecil of Porterville, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Estella Thomas of Oney and Mrs. Dave Tice, Temple City, Calif.; five brothers, Anderson Edwards of Stockton, Frank of Bowie, Charlie of Cyril, Clem of Carnegie, and Jasper Edwards, Austin, Tex.; two sisters, Mrs. Jeannett Rhey, Anderson, Ind., and Mrs. Annie Riley of Pryor; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, March 21, 1951 Powell Clayton Edwards March 28, 1889 ~ March 20, 1951 Clayton Edwards Dies in California; Rites Here Sunday Services for Clayton Edwards, 61, former Carnegie businessman, were at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Harvey Chapel at Fort Cobb. Rev. Toby Brown of Yukon, former Carnegie pastor, preached the funeral sermon and arrangements were in charge of the Harvey Funeral Home. Burial was in the Oney cemetery. Music was furnished by Rev. and Mrs. Harry Hubbard of Carnegie with Jean Sublett, pianist. Powell Clayton Edwards was born in Clarksville, Ark., March 28, 1889. He came to Oklahoma in 1907 and lived at Oney until 1901 when he moved to Carnegie He was in the wholesale and retail oil and gas business here until 1929 when he moved to California. He died March 20 at his home in Los Angeles after a short illness. He was married to Ruth Mendenhall in 1912. Survivors are two sons, Harold Edwards, Oklahoma City, and Harlan Edwards, Lancaster, Calif.; seven brothers, C.A. and James Edwards, Oney; Jasper, Denver City, Texas; Anderson, Cement; Frank, Bowie, Texas; Clem, Carnegie and C.H. Cyril; two sisters, Mrs. Oscar Rhea, Anderson, Ind., and Mrs. Riley Buchanan, Pryor, and two grandsons. |
© Carnegie Herald Carnegie, Oklahoma Wednesday, January 10, 1951 Powell Edmond Edwards March 28, 1889 ~ March 20, 1951 Edwards Services At Albert Sunday Services for Powell Edmond Edwards, 42, were at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Albert Baptist church. Rev. John Quickle, Albert, and rev. Huff, Chickasha, conducted the rites. Burial was in the Albert cemetery under director of the Harvey Funeral Home. Edwards was accidentally killed at his home in Albert at 1 p.m. Thursday. Powell Edwards was born in Arkansas January 28, 1908. He married Eva Burk May 1933. To them two children were born. Edwards had been a resident of Albert for a number of years. Survivors include his wife, Eva; two sons, Jay and Gary all of Albert; his father, James E. Edward of Albert; two brothers, Clyce Edwards, Albert: and Clyde Edwards, Eakly; two sisters, Mrs. Rene Rex, Tyler, Texas and Mrs. Agnes Applewhite of Calif. |
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma February 13, 2009 Sarah Louise [Griggs] Edwards December 1, 1933 ~ February 13, 2009 Sarah Edwards was born December 1, 1933 to Jack and Ola [Farmer] Griggs in Ashport, Tennessee. She passed away on Friday, February 13, 2009, in OKC, OK, at the age of 75. She was united in marriage to Thomas Harlin Edwards February 19, 1949 in Hernando, Mississippi. Sarah moved to Albert in 1953 from Wichita Falls, Texas and has lived in the Oney Community since that time. She worked as a cook at the Oney Public School for 14 years. She has been a longtime member of the Oney Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and where she was the Discipleship Training Director. She was also an executive board member of the Caddo Baptist Association. Sarah worked for over 20 years at Ft. Cobb State Park. Sarah was preceded in death by her parents her husband, Harlin one son, Tim and one granddaughter, Shauna Kay and one sister, Ruth. Sarah is survived by five sons, Tom Edwards of Bakersfield, CA, Steve Edwards and wife Deanna of Tahlequah, OK, Tony Edwards and wife GiGi of Rowlett, TX, Terry Edwards of Tahlequah, OK, and Tracy Edwards and wife Lori of Oklahoma City, OK 16-grandchildren 30 great grandchildren. Sarah is also survived by three sisters, Johnnie Faye Hargett of Horn Lake, MS, Jayne Bane of Ripley, TN, and Barbara Patterson of Collierville, TN.
