A service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Achille First Baptist Church, Achille, for Herbert "Hub" Wells, 71, Hendrix, who died Saturday, May 28, 2005, in Hendrix. Roger Speers and Dan Wells will officiate.

He was born to James R. "Mike" Sr. and Bertha (Dobbins) Wells Saturday, Sept. 2, 1933, in Yarnaby. He was a lifelong resident of Bryan County where he farmed and ranched. Herbert loved to check his cattle and loved his family dearly. He married his childhood sweetheart, Norma Connelly, March 21, 1953, at Achille Baptist Parsonage. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Achille.

While in high school, Hub played on the basketball team for four years and also played on the Achille Championship basketball team in 1952, the year he graduated. He was a member of the Achille Masonic Lodge No. 454 and a 32nd Degree Mason. He became a member of the lodge in 1958. He was also a past patron of the Eastern Star.

Herbert was a wonderful husband, Daddy, Grandad, brother, uncle and friend to all. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, of the home; son Stanley Wells, Hendrix; daughter Nancy Standifer and husband Jerry, Colbert; grandchildren Brent Hicks and wife Natalie, Colbert, and Rachel Yandell and husband Drew, Durant; great-grandchildren Brittany Hicks and Rylee Yandell; brother Randell Wells, Cartwright; brothers-in-law Eugene Connelly and wife Wanda, Achille, and Vern Coon and wife Camilee, Monroe, Wash.; sisters-in-law Mabel Barbee, Plainview, Texas, and Marie Mapp, Achille; uncle Dan Wells and wife Rheva, Kemp ; and numerous other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Burial will be in Yarnaby Cemetery , Yarnaby, with pallbearers Brent Hicks, Charlie Baker, Adam Cole, Billy Wells, Don Wells and Stephen Wells.

Masonic graveside rites will be conducted by the Achille Masonic Lodge No. 454.
