Services for Lois David Hicks, 96, of Durant, who passed away Sunday, Jan 18, 2009, in Durant, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Yarnaby Assembly of God in Yarnaby .
Stephen Biggerstaff and Bro. Rick Ring will officiate.
Lois was born Monday, Dec. 2, 1912, in Pirtle to John LaFlitte and Ellen (Ned) Jones Hicks. He married Bernice Mansell Hicks on Nov. 4, 1934 in Durant.
Lois was an avid outdoors man who loved to fish and hunt, and enjoyed sharing his deer camps with his sons, daughters and sons-in-law. He also loved to play dominoes. He was a member of the Iron Worker Union 135 in Texas City, Texas, for 1940-1975. A shipyard worker during world war II from 1943-1946. A self-employed construction home builder in Galveston, Texas, from 1976-1985. He also built homes during his down time with the Iron Workers Union. L. D. retired in 1985. L. D. helped build churches in Galveston county, a tireless church worker his entire life serving as an Elder of the Church of the Living God in Galveston, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, son Gene Raymond Hicks, grandchildren Haley Hicks and Jason Doonan, brothers Russell Hicks, Jack Hicks, Jim Jones, Mose Jones and Wesley Jones Jr., sisters Rena Smith, Bobbie Mitchell, Lillian Swindell, Helen Clymore and Ida Townsend.
Lois is survived by sons Dale Hicks, Texas City, Texas, DeLoyd Hicks and wife Ironda, Tom Hicks and Darlene Boatner, all of Achille, Cecil Hicks of Galveston, Texas, Kenneth Hicks and wife Elizabeth, San Antonio, Texas, Donald Hicks and wife Maureen, La Marque, Texas, and Ronald Hicks, Dickinson, Texas; daughters Wanitha Tucker and husband Craig of Ingram Texas, and Gale Roden and husband Charlie, Alvin, Texas; brother Warren (Hicks) Smallbear and wife Peggy, Prescott Valley, Arizona; aunt Serena Charley, Sulphur; 24 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
Interment will be at the Yarnaby Cemetery .
Pallbearers will be Dale Hicks, DeLoyd Hicks, Tom Hicks, Cecil Hicks, Kenneth Hicks, Donald Hicks and Ronald Hicks.
Family hour is today from 6-7 p.m. at Coffey-Murray Funeral Home in Durant.
