Tinsley Hamby

hamby-t

December 11, 1941 ~ April 5, 2024

Tinsley Hamby passed away peacefully at home on April 5, 2024, in Calera, Oklahoma, at the age of 82. Born on December 11, 1941, in Bryan County, Tinsley's life was marked by his loving, humorous, and adventurous spirit.

Tinsley's journey began as the beloved son of Malcalm Opid and Edith Audrey (Tinsley) Hamby. He was a devoted husband to his late wife, Frances (Hammonds) Hamby, whom he married in 1969 in Oklahoma City. Together they shared a life full of laughter and love. Tinsley was the proud father of Dustin Hamby and his wife Crystal, and his two daughters Cindy Weddle, and Janie Minor and her husband Thomas. His legacy continues through his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish their memories with him.

After earning his bachelor's degree, Tinsley dedicated many years to educating young minds as a high school math and science teacher. He also continued his own education, receiving additional degrees from OU, Southeastern and Grayson colleges. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to own numerous restaurants and a refuse company, where he applied his knowledge and work ethic to serve his community.

Tinsley's zest for life was evident in his love for western movies, traveling, and most importantly, spending quality time with his grandchildren. His favorite dog, Willy, was often by his side, sharing in the joy of his owner's adventures. Tinsley's sense of humor was infectious, and he never missed an opportunity to share a laugh with those around him.

Preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother, and five sisters, Tinsley's memory will be held in the hearts of all who knew him.

His graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at 1:00 p.m., in the Yarnaby Cemetery in Yarnaby, Oklahoma. Family hour will be on Monday, April 8, 2024, from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma.
