Drew Hilliard Fleming

fleming-d-h

June 12, 1932 - April 16, 2026

Drew Hilliard Fleming of Hendrix, Oklahoma, passed from this life on April 16, 2026, at the age of 93 in Durant, Oklahoma. A longtime resident of Bryan County, he was born on June 12, 1932, during the Great Depression, in Perry, Florida, to Hampton Hilliard Fleming and Annie May (Poppel) Fleming.

Drew led a life full of variety, whether in location or profession, including serving in the United States Army in Korea and North Carolina, songwriter and Blues guitarist in Memphis during the 1950's, professional butcher in Tennessee, a grocery store owner in California, a wheat and cattle farmer in Washington, and finally an Oklahoma cattle rancher.

Wedded in 1962 to Jeanne Kay Gross in Los Angeles, California, they eventually made their home in rural Hendrix, where they lived until her passing in 2004. Drew continued to spend a lot of time with family, joining them nightly for supper. He absolutely loved people, giving of his time and money to those in need. Though he was known for his share of joking with folks, he was serious about his belief and faith in Christ. He spent many hours in Bible study, preparing lessons for church youth classes, learning about Bible prophecy, and even dabbling in ancient Hebrew.

Drew's legacy lives on in the precious memories of his family. He is survived by his son Drew Fleming and wife Guylene of Florida; daughter Sue Dilling and husband Lars of Florida; his son Samuel Fleming and wife Shannon of Durant; his daughter Jill Wilkinson and husband Robert; his sister Jane Davis of Florida; and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jeanne, his parents Hampton and Annie, his brothers, and his daughter Missy.

A graveside memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, at the Yarnaby Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Stephen Shain.

Memorial arrangements have been entrusted to Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home, Durant, Oklahoma.
