Mary Ellen Compton Crain

Mary Ellen Compton Crain, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2024, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Born on January 7, 1932, in Yuba, Bryan County, Oklahoma, Mary Ellen's life was a testament to love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family. At the age of 11, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior in Karma, Oklahoma, a faith that guided her throughout her life.

She is survived by her two daughters: Gloria Ann Crain Shaw and her husband Tommy of Ravenna, Texas, and Kelli Annette Crain Sowell and her husband Sean of Glenpool, Oklahoma. Mary Ellen was the proud grandmother of four cherished granddaughters: Carla Michele Walker of Honey Grove, Texas, and Sydney Noel Sowell, Riley Grace Sowell, and Hadley Quinn Sowell, all of Glenpool, Oklahoma, and her great-granddaughter, Chloe Nicole Walker of Honey Grove, Texas.

Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her most precious son, Ervin Wendell "Wendy" Crain, Jr., who passed away at the young age of 13. She was also predeceased by the father of her children, Ervin Wendell Crain, as well as her parents, Daniel Webster "Webb" Compton and Dovie Grace Compton, and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Daniel Webster "Dan" Compton, Jr., and Nelda, and Charles Elvin Compton and Peggy.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 9, at 2 pm at Murray Hill Baptist Church in Colbert, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Clarehouse, a social model hospice, at 7617 S. Mingo Rd., Tulsa, Oklahoma 74133, or online at clarehouse.org. Her family is forever grateful for the loving care provided during Mary Ellen's final transition.

After 92 years on this Earth, Mary Ellen entered her Heavenly home and has been reunited with Wendy and her momma, daddy, and brothers. Her legacy of warmth, compassion, and strength will continue to inspire and be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will be forever cherished by those that loved her and walked the final leg of her journey home.
