Kathleen Lorene Pruitt

Kathleen Lorene Pruitt, 93, of Yuba, Oklahoma departed this life on January 30, 2018 at her home surrounded by family. She was born April 2, 1924 to Leonard William Miller and Emma Josephine (Hamilton) Miller at Romia, Oklahoma. She attended school at Yuba and Celeste, Texas. After attending Southeastern State College, Kathleen went to work at Tinker AFB building WW2 aircraft for Douglas Aircraft Company.

Kathleen met Wilmer Eugene Pruitt in Utica, Oklahoma and they married on March 15, 1944. While raising four boys, she taught school in Bryan County, teaching at Thomas Chapel, Utica and Yuba. In 1955, Kathleen accepted an offer to teach 4th grade in Raymondville, Texas and Wilmer, Kathleen and their boys moved 600 miles away from family and friends to the Rio Grande Valley. In 1968, the family moved again to Fort Worth, where Kathleen taught at South Birdville Elementary. Wilmer and Kathleen retired in 1979 to Utica. She was instrumental in creating the Utica Community Center and addressing for the 911 system in the area.

Kathleen received her B.A. from Southeastern Oklahoma State College and her Master's from the University of North Texas. She loved to read, travel, crochet, knit and visit with family and friends. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and D.A.R. Most important to Kathleen was family; she was a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother.

Kathleen was preceded in death by Wilmer, her husband of 53 years, her parents, her step-father Ben Childers, her brothers Richard Miller (Ann) and Nathaniel Lee Miller (Dorothy), her sister Mary Lou Hix (Hall), her step-brothers, Chick and Pepper Childers and her in-laws.

In addition to a host of nieces and nephews, Kathleen is survived by her four sons: Leonard Eugene Pruitt of The Colony, Texas, Carroll Lee Pruitt (Anita) of Fort Worth, Robert Allan Pruitt (Mary) of Yuba, Oklahoma and Gerald Wayne Pruitt (Carolyn) of Southlake, Texas. She is survived by five grandchildren: Kimberly Leigh Pruitt, Will Austin Pruitt, Barbara Lauren Young (Jon), Michael Allan Pruitt (Marisa) and Emma Teresa Pruitt, and nine great-grandchildren: Haley, Gavin and Asher Nobles; Travis and Rylan Pruitt; Brooke, James, Logan and Clark Young.

Family hour will be from 7-8:00 PM Friday, February 2, 2018 at Holmes-Coffey-Murray Chapel in Durant, Oklahoma.

Services will be at Utica Baptist Church in Utica, Oklahoma, February 3, 2018 at 1:00 with Bro. John Heath officiating, followed by interment at Wolfe Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to a charity of your choice in honor of her life well lived.
