Barbara Sue Pickett

Barbara Sue Pickett was born on March 17, 1945 to E. Glen and Maud (Pruitt) Mitchell in Durant OK. Sue passed away on Wednesday, January 29th at her home in Utica, OK at the age of 74 years, 10 months, and 9 days.

Sue attended school at Utica where she enjoyed playing basketball. Sue married Buril Pickett on February 23, 1962 in Durant, OK. They were married for nearly 39 years before his passing. She was employed by DFW Airport Board/ Pavements and Grounds for 14 years.

Sue was a mom to all of her son Larry’s friends. She was known as Grandma Sue to her grandchildren’s friends as well as to her nieces and nephews. Sue was a huge fan of sports including baseball and basketball. Sue has touched many peoples’ lives over the years and has been a caregiver to many. Some of Sue’s hobbies included playing Bingo, coaching softball, assisting in all the kids’ extra activities, rock hunting/polishing, camping, and performing magic tricks. Sue was the best tooth puller around.

Sue is survived by her son, Larry Pickett of Bennington, OK; Granddaughter, Maegan Loyd and husband Bryant of Bokchito, OK; great grandson, Tanner Webster; great granddaughters, Journey and Haley Webster, all of Bokchito, OK. Sisters- Brenda Russell and husband, David, Durant; Helen Cottingim, Utica, OK; Sis Taylor, Utica, OK; brothers- Jerry Mitchell and wife, Deanna, Utica, OK; Troy Mitchell and wife, Carole, Utica, OK; and Jack Mitchell, Utica, OK. Sister-in-laws, Lou Mitchell, Roberta, OK and Wanda Brown, Montague County; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Preceding her in death are husband, Buril; Grandson, Dustin Pickett; parents, E. Glen and Maud Mitchell; brothers Elbert (Hoss) Mitchell and Roy Mitchell.

Services to honor Sue's life will be held 1:00 PM Saturday February 1, 2020 at Utica Baptist Church with John Heath officiating. Interment will follow in Wolfe Creek Cemetery with Sue's nephews serving as pallbearers. The family will accept friends Friday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
