A service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Brown's Funeral Service Chapel for Roy Elmer Mitchell, 61, Durant, who died Sunday, December 21, 2003, at the Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma. Chaplain Charles Howard will officiate.
The son of Elbert Glen and Maudie Mae Bell Pruitt Mitchell, he was born August 17, 1942, in Utica. He attended schools in Utica, Yuba and Blue.
He married Martha Lou Medell March 16, 1996.
Roy was a farmer by trade. He loved to fish and was known to many of the people in this area for selling fresh produce at the local Farmer's Market.
Roy was in the National Guard and of the Baptist faith. He will be missed by family and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents and brother Elbert Ray "Hass" Mitchell.
Survivors include wife of the home, daughters, Glenda Gail Mitchell of Oklahoma City, Debbie Wolf of Honey Grove, Texas, Marcy Dickens of Mesquite, Texas, and Christy Meade of Utica; brothers, Jack Mitchell and wife Rosalee, twin brother Tory Mitchell and wife Carol of Utica, Jerry "Shorty" Mitchell and wife Deanna of Utica and Butch Dixon of Bedford, Texas; sisters, Silvia Taylor and husband Weldon of Utica, Helen Cottingim of Bedford, Sue Pickett of Fort Worth, Texas, and Brenda Russell and husband David of Durant, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
Burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery, Utica, with nephews serving as pallbearers.
Family hour is 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Brown's Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
