Erwin Gerald Gentry passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at the age of 96, in the home of his son at 2:00 in the afternoon. Gerald was born in Gracemont, Oklahoma on October 22, 1917 to Claude and Oma Mae (Davidson) Gentry. He married the love of his life Marie Pruitt in Anadarko, Okla. on December 10, 1941.
Gerald graduated from OU with a degree in music and proceeded to Southwestern and earned a degree in pharmacy. He was president of Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy and was a successful businessman owning Gentry Drug store in Claremore, Oklahoma and latter Gentry Drug store in Caddo, Oklahoma. He also worked for Holley Drug of Antlers, Okla. Later in life he retired to live by his son and family in Roberta, Okla.
His passions were music and the piano. Everyone loved hearing Gerald play the “boogie woogie” on the piano and his deep voice singing the spirituals he so loved. He wrote and sang many songs producing 3 albums with his singing group, The Brothers and Sisters that traveled and sang at many local churches. Later in life He and Marie were members of the Roberta Baptist church where he enjoyed singing and playing the piano.
Gerald is survived by his sons, Jan Gentry and wife JJ of Tulsa, Okla., Mike Gentry and wife Nancy of Roberta, Okla., 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Marie, and rejoined her on their wedding anniversary date. Also preceding him was his sister, June Atwood and his brother Bud Gentry. A Funeral Service in honor of his memory will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, December 16, 2013 at the Roberta Baptist Church in Roberta, Oklahoma with Pastor Jeremie Fisher officiating. Interment will follow at the Wolfe Creek Cemetery in Roberta, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be Blake Gentry, Jonathan Gentry, Josiah Gentry, Mark Shepard, John Shepard and Aaron Gentry.
