Services for Opal Buford, 89, Bokchito, who died Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at Four Seasons Nursing Center, Durant, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday March 26, 2010 at the Faith Baptist Church in Bokchito, Oklahoma. Roger Speers will officiate. Internment will be at Wade Cemetery in Wade, Oklahoma.
Opal was born Jan. 14, 1921, in Mead, Oklahoma to Gilford Jefferson “Jeff” and Tishie Lee (Carson) Smith. She married Pauline Buford on Aug. 19, 1939, in Bennington, Oklahoma. Mrs. Buford was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Bokchito.
She enjoyed writing her poems and being a homemaker.
She is survived by her son Jerry Pauline Buford and wife Annie Ruth, Knoxville, Arkansas; daughter Carolyn Webb, Bokchito, Oklahoma, grandchildren Russell Cohen and wife Teresa, Malvern, Arkansas, and Holly Buford, Lamar, Arkansas; great-grandchildren Bobbie, Katie and Anna Cohen and Joe Roden, all of Malvern, Arkansas; sisters Mildred “Sissy” Barker, Madill, Oklahoma and Frankie Ivy, Hurst, Texas; nieces and nephews Jacquita, Barbara, Debbie and Donald Ray, and a few cousins as well as many other relatives and friends.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers; Lem and Fred “Buddy” Smith, grandsons Keith and Scott Webb, niece Mildretha Taylor and nephew DeWayne Kent.
Family hour will be from 7-8 p.m. Thursday at the Coffey-Murray Funeral Home.
Services are under the direction of Coffey-Murray Funeral Home, Durant.
