Silas Blaine Jr

Silas Blaine, Jr. a beloved family member and resident of Durant, Oklahoma passed from this life into the next on Sunday, June 8, 2014 at the age of 77 years 3 months and 26 days. He was born to Silas R. and Eldoth (Cooke) Blaine, Sr. in Greenwood, South Dakota on Saturday, February 14, 1937. Silas met and married his friend and partner for life Lorene Sanders in Durant, Oklahoma in 1957.

Silas will be remembered as dedicated church member who committed much of his life in service as a lay leader and speaker of The Sulphur Springs Methodist Church. Silas was a man who trusted and relied on God's word and he loved to study the bible. He served his country proudly in the United States Air Force for 20 years and was a delegate for the Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference for over 10 years serving as the trustee for the Southeast Region. Silas retired after 33 years of service to the Durant School District. He was a proud member of the Yankton Sioux Tribe. Silas enjoyed being outside and the peace and quiet of fishing, but also like to watch a good western movie when he found the time.

Mr. Blaine is survived by his beloved wife Lorene of the home; son, Junior Blaine of Durant, Oklahoma; daughters, Teresa Jefferson of Tishomingo, Oklahoma and Monica Blaine of Durant, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Joseph Jefferson of Tishomingo, Oklahoma and Kayleigh Powell of Durant, Oklahoma; aunt, Eldoth Crawford of Wagoner, South Dakota; fishing buddy and spiritual student, Tyler Cothran of Caddo, Oklahoma.

Mr. Blaine was preceded in death by his parents, Silas and Eldoth Blaine; grandson, Cody Blaine; 5 brothers and 1 sister; step-dad, Bob McBride.

A gathering of friends and family will be from 6-7:00 PM Thursday, June 12, 2014 at the Holmes ~ Coffey ~ Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. A celebration of this life will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, June 13, 2014 at The Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church in Bennington, Oklahoma with Rev. Charles Battiest, Rev. Mel Gaines and Chief Gary Batton officiating. Interment will follow at Sulphur Springs Cemetery in Bennington. Pallbearers will be Joseph Jefferson, Roger Hamill, Ronnie Joe Sanders, Tyler Cothran, Terry Cole and Rodney Evans. The Honorary pallbearers will be James Dry, Joe Jefferson, Roger Scott, Assistant Chief Jack Austin Jr., Ted Dosh and Isaac Sexton.
