Edith Geraline Talley Thomas

Edith Geraline (Talley) Thomas was born on August 1, 1922 in Mead, OK to Marion and Annie Jeanette (McIntyre) Talley. Geraline passed away on October 28, 2019 in Durant, OK at the age of 97.

Geraline was a lifelong resident of Bryan County. She attended school at Thomas Chapel and Mead. She married the love of her life, J. H. (Jay) Thomas, Jr. on November 25, 1942 at Free Will Baptist Church in Silo, OK. They were married for 76 plus years before his passing on January 22, 2019. Geraline was a member of Durant’s Elk Lodge, Ladies Auxiliary, and Calera Order of the Eastern Star. She was also of the Baptist faith. Geraline loved cooking for her family, dancing with Jay, and volunteering with Jay as an ambassador for the Elks Lodge at V.A. nursing homes. Geraline was Jay’s right hand woman and could help him hook up the brush hog to the tractor, repair fence, cut firewood and take care of the cows and horses. She loved having a house full of her children and grandchildren, especially during the holidays. She was a wonderful cook and made sure that everyone had plenty to eat. Geraline’s mother and grandmother were original enrollees of the Choctaw Nation. She was also a loving caregiver for her family and extended family. Geraline will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Geraline will be preceded in death by parents, husband, son in law Bruno Leuzinger, and siblings; Irene, Lorene, Pauline, Emmitt, Alton and Clovis.

Geraline will be survived by daughter Deanna Leuzinger of Durant, OK, daughter Natoma Stephens and husband Buddy of Tulsa, OK, grandson Brad Stephens and wife Melanie of Plano, TX, granddaughter Traci Miller and husband Tim of The Colony, TX, grandson Jeffry Leuzinger and wife Tara of Krum, TX, great grandchildren; Devin Miller, Taylor Stephens, Kendall Miller, Nicholas Stephens, Brooke Stephens, and Scott Miller, sister Marlene Luter and husband Karl of Bokchito, OK, sister Lynda Boaen and Joe Wakefield of Calera, OK, sister Anna Sue Mooney and husband Ronnie of Bryant, AR, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Geraline’s family wants to express their appreciation for the kindness and support given by the staff at Featherstone Assisted Living Center, Guardian Home Health and Hospice, and Victory Home Health.

Funeral Service will be Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Mead Baptist Church with interment to follow at Restland Cemetery in Silo, OK. Bro. Kerry Groce will be officiating. Family Hour will be Friday, November 1, 2019 from 6-8:00 PM at Brown’s Funeral Service in Durant, OK. Pallbearers will be Steve Remshardt, Steve Williamson, Dave Cook, Dean Burnett, Danny Talley, and Tim Miller. Condolences can be sent to www.brownsfuneralservice.com.
