Joe D. Smith, deceased, Dec. 6, Dallas, TX. was born on 7-19-1937 to Claude and Ella Smith near Mead, where he was raised and graduated from highschool in 1955.
He married his highschool sweetheart, Mary Rose Slaten on Feb 2, 1957 in Silo. Joe was ordained into the ministry to proclaim the Gospel in 1958.
He then attended Decatur Bible College and Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth and served as pastor of Southern Baptist Churches in North Texas and Southeast Missouri for nearly 60 years.
He was proud of his relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and all that knew him experienced his joy and were encouraged to trust in and live for Jesus.
Joe was preceeded in death by brothers Alton, Alfred, Orville Harris, Tarp, his parents, nieces Penny and Joan, his in-laws Laura and Jim Slaten, Howard Slaten and one grandson, Casey Joe Smith.
He is survived by wife Rose of Dyersburg, TN, son Tim Smith and wife Connie, and children Cole, Cory, Chelsea and Cassidy also of TN. A daughter Melodie Young , her husband Gary and family, Amie, Carder and Chaney of Dallas and daughter Alisa Peterson and her husband Allan of Garland, TX as well as in-laws Dale and Nancy Ballard of Silo, Gordon and Ann Yoder of Colorado, Ruth Slaten also of Silo and Joyce Smith of New Mexico and numerous nieces and nephews and beloved friends throughout the country.
The family visitation will be at Holmes Murray Friday the 12th from 6-8 p.m. with the funeral at 11 a.m. Sat the 13th at Silo Baptist Church with internment to follow, also in Silo. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the cemetery fund in Silo or Mead.
