Martin Earl Hudgins of Silo, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2019 in Denison, TX at the age of 77. He was born on December 13, 1941 in Cordell, OK to Charles Earl Hudgins and Verda Mae (Harris) Hudgins.
Martin spent a part of his childhood in Carnegie and has been a longtime resident of Bryan County. He attended grade school in Carnegie and graduated from Calera High School. Martin served our country in the United States National Guard for 6 years. He married Gwen Smith on April 2, 1987 in Durant. They spent 31 wonderful years together. Martin has worked for Silo Public Schools for over 26 years and was a longtime pastor. He was an ordained minister of the Pentecostal Church of God and pastored churches in Bokchito, Cartwright, Coalgate, and Caddo. Reading the Bible was one of his favorite past times. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching sports on TV (mostly the Texas Rangers).
He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Melba, Edith, Denzel, and Jimmy; grandson, Casey Dillingham.
Loved ones left behind to cherish Martin’s memory are his wife Gwen Hudgins; children, Kay Hudgins, Phillip Arnold, Melanie McClain, Misty Eggenberg and husband Russell, Jessica Yeida and husband Cory, and April Swindle and husband Jeff; grandchildren, Daniel, Rachel, David, Cody Lee, Taylor, Cody, Samuel, Austin, John, Kaley, Paige, Aaron, Ericka, Hannah, Cloe, Delton, and Paige; 14 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and other extended family members and dear friends.
Services for Martin will be held 10:00 AM Monday, January 7, 2019 at Brown’s Funeral Service in Durant with Rev. Grady Ford officiating. Interment will follow in Silo Restland Cemetery with Daniel, Cody, David, Samuel, Cody Lee, Aaron, John and Delton serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers are Phillip, Josh, and Jeff. The family will accept friends Sunday afternoon from 1-3pm at the Funeral Home.
