Gary was a retired aircraft upholsterer. In his younger years he enjoyed motorcycles, riding and working on them. He was known for being talented in many areas including woodworking and music. Gary was an excellent woodworker, from carving an intricate music box in the style of a church as a Christmas gift for his mother to beautifully crafted wall hangings. He was also a gifted musician. He had a love for bluegrass music and was a talented instrument player. His musical talent was evident in his playing the harmonica, guitar, and banjo. Gary collected crystal rocks and tin cans. He creatively used the tin cans to make a Tin Man sculpture for his garden. He loved the outdoors. He was an avid deer watcher using his binoculars to see them more closely.
