Services for Leon McDonald, 84, Achille, who passed away Thursday, April 2, 2009, in Durant, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Kemp Baptist Church. Roger Speers will officiate.
Leon was born Wednesday, July 9, 1924, in Yarnaby to John Wesley and Ettie Louise Ladd McDonald.
He married Mary M. Brady on September 20, 1952, in Yuma, Arizona.
He served as mayor of Achille, and was also a member of the Achille School Board and Fire Chief of the Achille Volunteer Fire Department. He retired after 25 years from Bryan County District No. 2 last serving as road foreman.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister and grandson. Devin McDonald.
He is survived by his wife, son. David McDonald of Achille; daughters. Charlotte Lyday and husband Dan of Durant, and Stephanie Hutson and husband Harley of Denton, Texas; grandsons, Michael Lyday and wife Stacie of Durant, Brent Lyday and wife Michell of Coleman, and Johnnie McDonald of Achille; great-grandchildren, Tanner Lyday of Colbert, Caitilin and Joshua Williams and Jaelin Lyday, all of Durant, and Brendan Lyday of Coleman; brother, Donald McDonald and wife Louise of Grand Prairie, Texas; and sisters, O'Della Hodges of Omaha, Texas and Glenda Hamby and husband Lee of Paradise, Texas.
Internment will be at Rosewood Cemetery, Achille.
Pallbearers will be Jim Esbenshade, Harley Hutson, Billy Wells, Winford Alexander, Jerry Earley and Eddie Cranford. Honorary pallbearer is James Cross.
Family hour is today from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. at Coffey-Murray Funeral Home.
