Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Coffey-Murray Funeral Chapel for Kenneth "Pappy" Burleson, 86, Calera, who died Wednesday, November 5, 2008, in Southern Pointe Nursing Center in Colbert.
Bro. Tom Adams will officiate.
Kenneth was born Tuesday, July 25, 1922, in Yarnaby to Roy and Celia Burleson.
He married Oleta Bennett on January 8, 1946, in Henrietta, Texas.
He was a carpenter and farmer.
He served in the U. S. Army from November 1942 through December 1945. He was in the Company A 358 Infantry and received a Bronze Service Star and a Purple Heart. He also received a World War II Victory ribbon, an American Theatre ribbon and a Good Conduct medal.
He also loved to visit the coffee shop in Calera.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Murrell Wayne Burleson, brothers, Lacey Burleson and J. B. Burleson and sister, Dora Mae Skidmore.
He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Connie Burleson of Calera; grandsons, Gary Wayne Burleson and wife Cynthia of Kenefic, and Cary Dale Burleson and friend Sharon Smith of Calera; granddaughter, Angela Carol Burleson of Calera; great-grandsons, Brandon Wayne Burleson and Andrew Marcus Wayne Burleson, both of Kenefic, and great-granddaughters, Tabitha Kaylyn Burleson of Kenefic, Angel Sky Burleson of Kingston and Amber Lynn Burleson of Calera.
Interment will follow at Rosewood Cemetery in Achille. Pallbearers will be Junior Doughty, Erwin Nix, Gerald Fraze, Lynn Jackson, J. D. Rose and Joe Brown.
Honorary pallbearers are Earl Jackson and Wayne Ervin.
Family hour will be from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Coffey-Murray Funeral Home.
Coffey-Murray Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
