Lawrence Roy Boatner, of Hendrix, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the age of 75. He was born on October 10, 1948, to Roy and Sarah (Cornish) Boatner. Lawrence was a cherished father and a hard-working rancher.
For Lawrence, life after attending High School at Achille Public Schools was characterized by two things: family and ranching. Lawrence worked hard on the land and raising livestock. Over the years, in the places he worked, he developed many friendships which lasted long after the workday was done.
His devotion to work was superseded by his devotion to his family. His two daughters, Sarah and Sandy cherished life with a dad who loved unconditionally. His two sons-in-law, Jory and James, were included as family from the start. His grandkids had the best Papa anyone has known. Whether it was fishing at the pond, shooting baskets in the backyard, climbing fences, or driving through the pasture to the creek, Papa was ready for it all.
Lawrence possessed the rare combination of rough hands, a firm grip, and a soft heart. Years of work developed the first two. Trusting Jesus, raising and loving two daughters, and enjoying 5 grandchildren amplified the last.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Sarah Boatner, and his brothers Gerald, James, David, and Colin "Calvin" Boatner.
Lawrence is survived by his daughter, Sarah Wade and her husband, Jory with their children, Liam and Cora, of Durant, OK; daughter, Sandy Poulain and her husband, James with their children, Grayson, Audrey, and Ben, of Holdenville, OK; and other extended family.
Family Night will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2024 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home. A funeral service to honor Lawrence's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024 at Kemp Baptist Church with his son-in-law, James Poulain, officiating. Lawrence will be laid to rest at Rosewood Cemetery following his funeral service.
