Henry "HF" Bird

Henry “H.F.” Bird of Achille, Oklahoma passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2012 in Denison, Texas at the age of 88 years and 10 months. He was born on Saturday, September 22, 1923 in Rochelle, Texas to E.A. and Frankie (Wigington) Bird, H.F. married Oleta C. Putman on November 1, 1947 in Bonham, Texas.

He was a member of the Prairie View Baptist Church and had served as a deacon for 43 years. H.F. worked at the Safeway Plant in Denison, Texas for 32 years. He served in the United States Navy for three years during World War II on the Air Craft carrier USS Makin Island as a Signal Man. After retiring he spent several years camping and traveling. H.F. loved being with friends and his church family. Henry was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather. One of his favorite pastime was admiring his great grandkids pictures every time he walked by them. Mr. Bird spent many hours watching sports on TV, especially the Rangers. He loved playing games with the kids.

He is survived by his wife, Oleta Bird of the Achille home; daughters, Christie Peppers and husband Gary of Denison, Texas and Lana Wingfield and husband Steve of Mead, Oklahoma; daughter-in-law Sue Bird of Arizona; grandchildren, Lori and husband Shawn, Jennifer and husband Chris, Dee and wife Lindsey, James and wife Kara, Brian and wife Sabrina and Dusty and wife Caite; great grandchildren, Trey, Caleb, Elissa, Sydney, Malorie, Maci, Koby, Dustin, Alexander,Emma and Braden.

Mr. Bird was preceded in death by his son, Larry Bird; parents, Frankie and Ed Bird; and brother, Edcar Bird.

Services for Mr. Bird will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at the Prairie View Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Parrish officiating. Burial will follow in the Rosewood Cemetery, Achille, Oklahoma with Lori Miller, Jennifer Weatherford, Dee Peppers, James Bird, Brian Wingfield and Dusty Peppers serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Weatherford, Shawn Miller and Trey Gibby. Family hour will 7 – 8 P.M. Monday, July 23, 2012 at the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home.
