A funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Seventh and Beech Church of Christ for Velma Edythe White, 90, Durant, who died Sunday, December 21, 2003, at Four Seasons Nursing Center in Durant. Bro. Tom Adams will officiate.
Mrs. White was born August 11, 1913, in Liberty.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Seventh and Beech Church of Christ.
She married Earnest Hammons March 21, 1931, in Colbert. He died November 6, 1949. She later married Lloyd White June 5, 1960. He died December 16, 1981.
After her husband's death, she became active in assisting rest home residents in their social activities. She also enjoyed gardening when she was able as well as traveling and crocheting.
Also preceding Mrs. White in death were her parents, five sisters, two infant brothers, three children, Lonnie Joe Hammons, Melva Jean Davis and Billy Don Hammons and grandson, Lynn Timberlake.
Survivors include son-in-law, Ross Davis and wife Karolyn of Durant, daughter-in-law, Dora Hammons of Rowlett, Texas; grandchildren, Tonya Hampton of Archer City, Texas, Dr. Jim Davis and wife Rhonda of Newcastle, Melanie Renteria and husband Robert of Richardson, Texas, Bill Hammons and wife Lori, Tracy Welch and Michelle Hoover, all of Rowlett; six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, nieces, Lillian "Tootsie" McAlister and husband Troy of Denison, Texas, Jola Russell of Ardmore, Nell Williams and husband Claud of Denison, Janice Parker and husband David of Durant, Barbara Mackey and husband Beryl of Sherman, Texas, and thirteen great-nieces and nephews and other relatives.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Calera, with Dr. Jim Davis, Bill Hammons Jr., Justin Welch, Beryl Mackey, David J. Parker and David Parker serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Troy McAlister and Claud Williams.
Coffey-Murray Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
